Background / History

Luluwo grew up in poverty, remembering hunger, relatives kidnapped by great nobles, and a thief grandmother with whom she depended on one another. Her early ambition was to become a Gold Adventurer, swear allegiance to the Arnor Kingdom, obtain noble status, and gain access to the class she resented. 165 777

From birth, Luluwo embraced shortcuts as her personal philosophy. She pursued Sain Underground City's first clear as a route to promotion and recruited Soul Suckers to invade Leon's group rather than risk a direct contest. 160 Her early expeditions also relied heavily on her own survival; she believed that even if her companions died, she could escape the dungeon alone. 161

Her invasion scheme backfired when the Mysterious Hooded Man repeatedly invaded and defeated the New Strategy Group. Luluwo's fear worsened after encountering Lion Ape, leaving her unable to function normally despite healing attempts and temporarily stalling the group's exploration. 164 166 She later admitted her role in arranging invasions against Leon and apologized directly to him. 183

The Warrior Jar incident changed her approach to guide-making. After public criticism over missing the event's details, she returned to Sain Underground City with large quantities of Flower Field Magic scrolls, rebuilt trust with the Little Jars, and developed a gravestone-based strategy for Father Gascoigne. 165 167 She adopted the principle that the shortest route may require taking a detour. 338

Appearance

Luluwo is a beautiful woman associated with an elegant “black bat” image. She favors black clothing and an elaborate black cloak, and her bat bloodline is visible through features such as her pale arm and deployable wings. 166 298 338 573

  • Often wears a stylized black cloak capable of concealing chains and supplies. 338 634
  • Can spread bat-like wings when presenting herself dramatically. 183
  • Wore a beautiful dress during the meteor-shower ambush. 339
  • Later uses full-body armor while exploring Blighttown. 778

Personality

Luluwo is ambitious, opportunistic, and intensely practical. She instinctively calculates the value of opportunities, recruits useful allies, and looks for ways to turn status, information, and dungeon discoveries into leverage. 160 629 631 She can be manipulative when dealing with rivals, such as arranging for Eliphis to enter Irithyll Dungeon so she could observe his suffering through recording stones. 336

Her failures made her more thorough. Rather than publishing incomplete information for speed, she learned to test strategies, account for costs, map routes, and verify the limits of her recommendations. 169 235 785 She is also highly expressive: she can rally crowds, aggressively promote an expedition, or react with panic when confronted by terrifying enemies. 219 591

Despite her calculation and sharp tongue, Luluwo cares deeply for her companions. Berto, Mila, and Esm remained with her because she had helped them at their lowest points, and Luluwo repeatedly risks herself to protect teammates. 166 338 She also hesitates to harm demonized humans when there is a possibility they can be restored. 194

  • Her bat-themed appearance and bloodline are the source of her “Black Bat” reputation. 166 775
