Background
Before joining Gauss's party, Shadow operated independently in Canopy Town under a black robe and mask. She showed compassion by helping a young girl recover a stolen pendant, though the incident left her worried that Gauss might regard her as a thief. Both she and Gauss felt an unexplained familiarity upon seeing each other, but neither could identify its source 233 237.
The Adventurer's Guild introduced her as a temporary Level 5 Rogue for the investigation into the Black Fang Tribe. Despite being stronger in level than Gauss and the other members, she accepted Gauss's command structure and took responsibility for the party's most dangerous scouting duties 237.
After completing the commission, Shadow accepted Gauss's invitation to remain with the team permanently. She later underwent a private breakthrough to Level 6, returned with significantly expanded powers, and continued to develop alongside the Red Dragon Group 251 296 311.
Appearance
Shadow usually presents herself in clean, practical combat attire; during covert work, she wears a black robe and mask 233 237.
- Long, straight black hair 244
- Pure black pupils 247
- Initially described as tall and slender; after reaching Level 6, she appears noticeably more mature and more beautiful 311
- Her shadow can envelop her in shifting darkness, making her outline difficult to discern in battle 243
Personality
Shadow is quiet, composed, and habitually concise. She initially comes across as expressionless and difficult to approach, but she is disciplined in team operations and willing to follow a lower-level captain when she judges the decision to be sound 237 238.
Beneath her guarded demeanor, she is empathetic and protective of vulnerable people. She is also more open with trusted companions than she expects herself to be, eventually revealing Shayid's existence and the nature of her shadow powers to Gauss 233 244.
Following her Level 6 breakthrough, she becomes more cheerful and talkative. Outside commissions, she is known to spend time in the city helping others on her own initiative 311 376.
Abilities & Skills
Shadow Merging
Shadow can transform herself into a flat, dark silhouette and merge with nearby shadows or the ground. This allows her to move covertly through terrain that would obstruct ordinary scouts 238.
- Blends into environmental shadows with near-instantaneous speed.
- Can pass freely through physical objects while in her shadow state 244.
- Can conceal Gauss or the full party within her shadow for infiltration and rapid movement 371 398.
- Her stealth is strong enough that even Gauss finds her difficult to detect after her Level 6 advancement 323.
Shadow Transfer
Shadow can connect to a target's shadow and move the target to her side if they do not resist 241.
- Used to protect Gauss and other allies from attacks by Goblin Bat Riders 241 244.
- Provides the party with a rapid emergency-extraction option during dangerous encounters 276.
- Her transfer speed is sufficient to evade many attacks, though it requires an available shadow connection and a cooperative target 244.
Shadow State Combat
When fully cloaked in shadow, Shadow becomes a flickering, seemingly incorporeal phantom 243 244.
- Can move through physical obstacles and strike enemies from unexpected positions 244.
- Can combine shadow power with archery, allowing her arrows to carry shadow energy 240.
- Her shadow-based attacks are especially suited to silent eliminations and ambushes 354.
Shadow Bind
Shadow possesses the control skill Shadow Bind, acquired through Adventurer's Guild rewards 277.
- Restrains a target through its shadow.
- Her talent makes her use of the technique more effective than that of ordinary Professionals.
- Damage dealt to the bound shadow is also inflicted on its host 277.
Shadow Clones
After advancing to Level 6, Shadow gained the ability to split off autonomous shadow clones for reconnaissance and combat 312.
- Initially able to create up to two clones, each estimated to possess roughly 30–60% of her strength 312.
- Clones can form weapons such as extending shadow spears and create erupting shadow spikes 312.
- Destroyed clones return to Shadow without physically injuring her, but their sensory feedback causes discomfort 315.
- At Level 7, her maximum number of differentiated shadows increases from two to five 433.
- A five-in-one combined clone is said to be comparable in strength to Shadow herself 433.
Reconnaissance
Shadow is the Red Dragon Group's primary scout, valued for speed, stealth, and the ability to bypass terrain 282 398.
- Located the underground Kobold town within Brennan Great Mine without alerting its inhabitants 282.
- Produced maps and intelligence on the mine's hidden passages, traps, and monster distribution 285.
- Her two-hour reconnaissance of the mine was considered more productive than days of work by an ordinary Rogue 282.
- Uses clones to gather information on enemy numbers, weapons, elite units, and terrain before the party engages 312.
Equipment
- Ordinary horse used during the Black Fang Tribe commission 238
- Arrows and signal flares carried for field operations 238
- Saddlebags and prepared travel supplies 238
Relationships
- Gauss — Captain and trusted teammate. Shadow initially joins his Black Fang Tribe commission as a temporary scout, then formally enters his party after judging the group compatible with her needs 237 251.
- Shayid — Shadow's sentient personal shadow. Shayid communicates directly with her thoughts, teases her about Gauss, and acts as the foundation of her shadow powers 237 244.
- Alya — Teammate. Shadow repeatedly protects Alya from aerial Goblin attacks and later receives updates from her on the party's activities during Shadow's absence 251 312.
- Theron — Teammate. Theron supports Shadow with Blessing Spells during the Black Fang Tribe battle 242.
- Albenna — Teammate. Albenna recognizes Shadow's exceptional value as a reconnaissance Professional during the Brennan Great Mine commission 284.

Canopy Town and the Black Fang Tribe Commission
