Background / History
Tang San awakened Blue Silver Grass in Holy Soul Village's martial-soul ceremony. Unlike the other children, he possessed Innate Full Soul Power and qualified to attend Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy alongside Yao Yan. He initially worried that his father, Tang Hao, would not permit him to enroll, but Old Jack promised to speak for him 1.
At Nuoding, Tang San became Yu Xiaogang's disciple. Yu guided him to obtain his first soul ring from a Mandala Snake, giving his Blue Silver Grass poisonous properties and the first soul skill, Blue Silver Entanglement 6. Tang Hao later entrusted Tang San's care to Yu before leaving on his own business 10.
Tang San's rivalry with Yao Yan escalated after Yao publicly challenged Yu Xiaogang's cultivation theories. Tang San defended his teacher and came to regard Yao as an enemy 7. Their back-mountain duel ended with Tang San badly wounded and Yao taking his Twenty-Four Bridges Bright Moon Night as the wagered prize. The defeat left Tang San questioning whether ordinary Blue Silver Grass could ever rival Yao Yan's 16 17.
Yu restored Tang San's resolve by reminding him of his Twin Martial Souls and advising him to delay cultivation of his second martial soul until he could attach ten-thousand-year soul rings to it 18. His second martial soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, though its existence later drew Martial Soul Hall's attention 94.
Personality
Tang San is proud, determined, and intensely protective of those he considers his own. He is especially devoted to Yu Xiaogang, viewing his teacher's past protection and guidance as a debt of gratitude; insults directed at Yu quickly provoke him 7.
Repeated defeats by Yao Yan expose a more volatile side. Tang San becomes consumed by the need to surpass his rival, falls into periods of self-doubt, and questions both his martial soul and Yu's guidance after being outclassed 17 18 128. Even so, setbacks repeatedly strengthen his resolve to improve.
