Chapter 1: Don't Worry, Leave It To Me! [New Book Incoming!]

Jiang City, Seventh Satellite City.

Inside a quiet, secluded house on the outskirts, faint whimpering sounds echoed. The sky had already darkened, and the surrounding trees cast deep shadows, creating an exceptionally eerie atmosphere.

With a whirring sound, a white electric scooter pulled up to the house and was parked neatly in an empty spot. The young man who dismounted took off his helmet and shook his head, letting his hair fall.

He had short, choppy hair that reached his eyebrows, which were set high above his deep-set eyes, making them appear like stars. His straight nose and smooth facial contours were flawless.

If handsomeness had a ranking, this person would be at the Great Perfection stage of the "Yanzu" level.

The young man looked up and saw a middle-aged man in a suit waiting downstairs. He raised his hand and called out, "Boss, hello. I'm Yue Wen, the manager of Yue's Cultivation Firm."

"Master Yue..."

The middle-aged man wasn't tall. He had a buzz cut with a receding hairline, his suit was creased inside and out, and his face bore the weariness of a working ox.

After greeting the young man, he asked with a hint of suspicion, "Can you handle an Evil Spirit by yourself?"

"You can just call me Xiao Yue," the young man named Yue Wen replied with a smile. "Although our firm has low fees, we get the job done. Leave it to me, and you can rest assured."

"That's good," the middle-aged man nodded, though he still seemed uneasy.

It wasn't surprising he was worried. Yue's Cultivation Firm charged much less than other Qi Refiner organizations. He had only called them after seeing a small advertisement on a utility pole.

And they sent someone who was excessively handsome—not the kind of appearance that inspires immediate trust in a client.

However, Yue Wen seemed confident. He casually walked to the front of the house. "You didn't explain everything clearly on the phone. Can you give me more details about the situation?"

"Uh, sure." The middle-aged man followed behind him, cautiously glancing up at the house. "My surname is Chen. I'm the property manager for Six Nine Same City."

"This house is a new property our company acquired. Normally, companies don't buy properties themselves; there's too much risk. But the previous owner was desperate to sell, so the price was very low. I suggested the company buy it... thinking we could renovate it and sell it slowly for a much higher profit."

"I didn't expect that when we started renovations, we discovered something was wrong. This house is haunted by an Evil Spirit at night! I only viewed it during the day before, so I didn't realize this." Manager Chen looked distressed. "My superiors are putting pressure on me. If I don't resolve this within a week, I'll be fired."

Yue Wen nodded. No wonder he sought his help.

It seemed his superiors hadn't allocated a large budget.

Yue's Cultivation Firm was unknown in Jiang City, but its affordability made it the top choice for working people.

"The workers didn't get a clear look at the Evil Spirit. They just know it appears and disappears without a trace and can suddenly attack people. If there hadn't been so many of them, something terrible might have happened. But because there haven't been any casualties yet, our case has to be put on the waiting list at the Supervision Bureau. It could take a month for them to handle it..."

"After all, this area is close to the Wasteland, and it's not considered a major paranormal case. The Supervision Bureau is swamped with work, so it'll be a low priority." Yue Wen nodded and asked, "Did you interview the neighbors?"

Manager Chen pointed into the distance. "Before we bought the property, we usually interviewed the neighbors as a routine to check for any anomalies. But for one thing, the residents here are far apart, and the neighbors didn't know much. For another, we later learned that the original owner had given the nearby neighbors some fruit beforehand, asking them not to say anything bad."

"Ah, the 'fruit gifting' tactic, I see?" Yue Wen smiled.

"But since the neighbors don't know anything, it means this Evil Spirit has been staying peacefully in the house. It's unlikely to be a demon; it might be a Nightmare." He turned his head. "We need to go inside and take a look."

"I have to go in too?" Manager Chen flinched.

"I'll need to close all doors and windows shortly. If you stay outside, I won't be able to keep an eye on you," Yue Wen said.

"Then..." Manager Chen stood at attention for a moment before weakly saying, "I'll go in with you."

It was dark now, and standing alone downstairs was quite unnerving.

Who knew if the Evil Spirit might come outside?

He stepped forward, unlocked the door with his key, and immediately darted behind Yue Wen.

Yue Wen, however, strode in boldly, taking in the furnishings. They were all solid wood furniture and relief decorations, exuding the vibe of a nouveau riche household from twenty years ago.

"Close the door and don't turn on the lights. It might disturb it," Yue Wen instructed.

Leaning against the wall, Manager Chen whispered, "How can we find the Evil Spirit in the dark?"

By human instinct, he felt more secure in a brightly lit environment.

"Don't worry," Yue Wen said, pulling a pair of sunglasses from his pocket and putting them on.

Manager Chen stared, bewildered. The room was already dark, and this kid was wearing sunglasses?

"Are you a rapper?"

"These look like sunglasses, but they're actually a Demon-Slaying Mirror," Yue Wen explained. "In the dark, they can perceive the aura of Evil Spirits, see through their origins, and leave them nowhere to hide."

Upon hearing it was a Magic Artifact, Manager Chen's eyes immediately filled with reverence.

The windows in the house were covered with thick curtains. After closing the door, not a sliver of daylight penetrated, leaving the room pitch black and silent.

As Yue Wen put on the "Demon-Slaying Mirror," the entire first-floor hall began to mist over in his vision. He slowly walked deeper inside, and everywhere he looked, a gray gas, like a dense fog, permeated the area.

Manager Chen stood at the doorway, afraid to move forward. He couldn't see the gray mist surrounding them and asked in surprise, "Where is the Evil Spirit?"

"I don't know yet," Yue Wen shook his head. "This is a Nightmare with considerable spiritual strength. Its malevolent energy is everywhere."

"Then what do we do?" Manager Chen panicked.

"Don't worry," Yue Wen raised his left hand, revealing the watch on his wrist. "This looks like a watch, but it's actually a Spirit-Tracking Needle. It can track spiritual fluctuations. As long as the Nightmare is active in the house, I can pinpoint its location!"

As he spoke, he seemed to activate the watch. A faint light emanated from its surface. Within the shimmering glow, the needle began to spin rapidly.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh--

After spinning a few times, the pointer aimed at the stairwell, then quickly moved again, turning towards the main entrance.

"You know where the Evil Spirit is?" Manager Chen asked, his voice trembling.

"I do," Yue Wen glanced at him and replied, "Behind you."

"Huh?" Manager Chen was stunned.

Immediately, a mass of shadow suddenly emerged beside him, instantly extending several tentacle-like appendages that gripped Manager Chen's body and neck.

Bang!

His throat was suddenly constricted, and he was lifted off the ground. Choking, his limbs flailed wildly. His right hand flailed towards Yue Wen, "Help... help me..."

"Heh, don't worry," Yue Wen gave a wicked smile, revealing the silver bracelet on his right hand. "This thing that looks like a bracelet is actually a Flying Sword. It cuts down demons and Evil Spirits like chopping vegetables. Now that this Evil Spirit has revealed its true form, it can't escape."

"You..." Manager Chen's veins bulged, and a few words sputtered from his throat, "Hurry... damn it... up."

"With sword heart as the guide, spirit commands the nine heavens!"

Yue Wen pointed his right hand forward, and the bracelet indeed transformed into a silver light, whistling through the air!

Ching--

Although the hall was spacious, it was merely a blink of an eye for the extremely fast sword light. The shadowy mass controlling Manager Chen didn't even have time to react before it was pierced by the sharp radiance.

"Ah--" it screamed, and the ink-black light around it exploded, vaguely revealing a tree-like silhouette with hundreds of vines extending from it.

After its true form briefly appeared, it exploded.

Boom!

"So it was a century-old tree. It must have been cut down when construction started just as it was about to take form. No wonder its resentment is so strong; its residual spiritual energy could form such a powerful Nightmare."

Yue Wen saw through the Evil Spirit's origin and said leisurely.

Manager Chen, meanwhile, plummeted to the ground with a thud, landing face-first. He weakly extended a hand, "Help me... call... an ambulance."

"Don't worry," Yue Wen stepped forward, picked him up, and walked outside to his small electric scooter.

"This thing that looks like an electric scooter is actually refined from the bones of a spiritual beast, the White Dragon Colt. At full speed, it's lightning fast. It'll take less than five minutes to get you to the nearest hospital."

"Even if we don't make it in time, you can still rest assured."

"I know a good funeral supplies shop. Good quality and low prices, guaranteed to provide you with a one-stop service."

Starting a new book!

Six months of holiday break have passed in the blink of an eye. Thinking back on this period, it feels like only half a year has gone by.

Every time I start a new book, I feel very apprehensive, just like the first time I wrote a book. I don't know what kind of experience awaits me in the end.

As long as you all like this story, you are my brothers and sisters; if you spend even a penny, you are my benefactors; if you can contribute daily reading data, you are practically my grandparents.

(The three do not constitute a subordinate relationship; we each address our own.)

(Strictly speaking.)

Hehe.

I bow to all of you.
