Its main urban district is a dense, high-rise commercial center, while its satellite towns border the Wasteland and experience more frequent Evil Spirit incidents. Resources and talent consequently concentrate toward the safer urban core 30.

• Four fortress-like checkpoints connect Jiang City to the Wasteland beyond its protective barrier. Each exit requires a substantial fee 104.
• The satellite cities include agricultural, ranching, and mining areas. City No. 2 has mineral-rich public and private mines 79.
• The city-protecting grand formation encloses the city and can fully prohibit passage during emergencies 73.

History

During the early Spiritual Energy Cataclysm, a fox demon occupied Jiang City, proclaimed itself the Fox Immortal Empress, and demanded monthly offerings of virgin boys and girls. Human cultivators repeatedly failed to subdue it until the Hu Family aided in sealing it beneath the Fox Suppression Tower 99.

After the Five Great Immortal Sects suppressed the Fox Demon Empress and purged evil entities from the city, they constructed Jiang City's protective grand formation. Its construction had to account for Dragon Terrace Mountain, whose inclusion would greatly increase the formation's cost and footprint 324.

The Hu Family's assistance in sealing the Fox Demon Empress gave it control of the Fox Suppression Tower and special privileges within Jiang City. Its long-standing role as the tower's guardian became the foundation of the family's influence, although the Fox Demon's eventual death threatened those privileges 235.

Jiang City is frequently dismissed by outsiders as a “cultivation wasteland,” but its younger generation's performance in the City Hero Battle surprises visiting cultivators from stronger regions 139 320.

Public Security and Underworld

The city maintains a veneer of order, but gangs, illegal cultivators, and Demon Race infiltrators operate beneath it. The Tiger Head Gang once dominated the southern suburbs of City Seven through extortion and contract violence 18.

• The Sanwen Association and Pudu Sect jointly operated a research institute conducting human experiments. The Supervision Bureau could eliminate the institute but lacked evidence tying the crimes directly to the parent organizations 99.
• After the Sanwen Association was uprooted, the East City Association moved into City Seven and took over much of its territory; its rise was believed to have Hu Family backing 220.

Major Incidents

Snake Mountain Bronze Cauldron Incident

After Xing Tian Sect purchased the Snake Mountain Bronze Cauldron, Demon Race members ambushed its escort and stole the artifact. The Supervision Bureau activated the city-protecting grand formation for three days, sealing Jiang City while searching for infiltrators and preventing outside reinforcements from entering 73.

The lockdown created widespread public anxiety, not because residents feared the restriction itself, but because clashes between powerful cultivators and evil entities could devastate civilian property or cause mass casualties 73. The cauldron was ultimately removed from the city after the Demon Race member was killed 90 92.

Fox Demon Amusement Park

The Fox Demon Amusement Park opened on an ancient street under Supervision Bureau guard, attracting cultivators seeking its rewards 186. When activated again, its summons extended across the entirety of Jiang City 220.

The Fox Demon Empress's death later ended the basis for the Hu Family's special status as guardian of the Fox Suppression Tower, destabilizing the city's political balance 235.

City Hero Battle

Jiang City's City Hero Battle selects four young cultivators to represent the city at the Four Seas Ascending Dragon Tournament. Their performance affects the resources Jiang City receives, the future strength of its Supervision Bureau, and the city's long-term prosperity 329.

The battle's final four City Heroes were Yue Wen, Zhao Xing'er, Qi Dian, and Liu Yuanjun. Each received an exclusive hero badge, five million in cash, and official training before the Ascending Dragon Tournament 348.

• Yue Wen, Zhao Xing'er, and Qi Dian claimed three of the four City Hero seats as members of Yue's Cultivation Firm 348.
• The strength of that year's competitors was considered unprecedented for Jiang City, with even established Supervision Bureau captains eliminated early 346.
