"Please... save my sister..." The boy used the last of his strength to enter the store. At the sight of the bright lights, all his strength seemed to leave him. His legs gave way, and he collapsed at Chen Xuan's feet.
Chen Xuan saw bloodstains all over the boy's clothes.
This was the first guest who had stopped him before he could finish his welcome.
The boy was carrying someone on his back: a little girl who looked about his age, around ten. Her lips were pale and her eyes shut tight. She did not react even when she hit the floor. Chen Xuan reached out and found that she had a high fever. Her forehead was hot to the touch.
Why were they running through the wilderness instead of finding a doctor? With the blood on the boy's clothes, could someone be hunting them?
"What happened? Is someone hurt?" Lin Qing asked as she came over.
Chen Xuan did not answer right away. He sent his spiritual energy outward, covering everything within two kilometers of the estate. He could sense seven or eight people moving nearby, but none were heading straight for it. Their movements were more like those of local residents. That meant the children had no pursuers close behind them, or had already shaken them off.
To be safe, he pulled down the store's rolling shutter anyway.
Lin Qing had finished checking the two guests. "Neither has any obvious external injuries. The blood on them belongs to someone else. But their breathing is faint, and their blood pressure is abnormally low. The girl's temperature is thirty-nine degrees Celsius, and her pulse is irregular. She's in worse shape."
She gave the boy's cheek a few tugs. "Hey, wake up! No good... he's already unconscious."
