He said that, although the Master of Ten Thousand had initially captured him by force and made him a subordinate, he had then handed him over to Master Feng.
That was right. The person he sent messages to was none other than Master Feng, the star of tomorrow's birthday banquet.
Master Feng had come to Fengtou Town alongside the Master of Ten Thousand. On the surface, he was an imposing merchant with a vast fortune. In reality, he was little more than a puppet the Master of Ten Thousand had put on display. Whenever the other wealthy merchant families wanted to meet the Master of Ten Thousand, they used Master Feng as an excuse, claiming they needed to discuss some business with him.
Master Feng was not entirely a puppet, either. If they had to put a label on it, he was a "subordinate" too.
After the boy was handed over to Master Feng, he only kept in touch with him. Master Feng often assigned him to watch over a courtyard or a particular person. His ability was so useful that the area he was responsible for monitoring had gradually expanded from two alleys until it now covered nearly half of Fengtou Town.
Every night, unless something special happened, all he had to do was send back a single report saying, "Everything is as usual," or sum up the activities of the person he was watching.
His method of sending messages was convenient, too. He only needed to speak to the rats he kept, and Master Feng on the other end could read the information he left on them. It was probably one of Master Feng's abilities, though he did not know for sure.
The boy was
