After finishing their inspection of the Dark Star members' rooms, the four of them finally began searching the rooms occupied by "people."
There were only ten rooms in total, and none of them was very large. They also had plenty of time, so there was no need to split up. Otherwise, they would have to repeat all the information they found once they regrouped, which would only be a hassle.
They entered the nearest room, the one belonging to the woman holding a child.
As soon as they opened the door, the woman inside stared straight at them.
She wasn't wearing enough warm clothing. It seemed she had only a sweater and a pair of trousers on, and the exposed skin on her arms, neck, and feet was bright red from the cold.
Her vacant gaze was fixed toward the doorway. Her face was utterly lifeless, as though their figures had been imprinted in her eyes.
Zhang Yu stopped in his tracks, his scalp prickling. It took him two seconds to realize the woman wasn't looking at them at all; she had simply been facing that direction already.
The woman remained motionless as a statue. There wasn't even the slightest rise and fall of her chest. She really was just like Yu Xing had described—like a dummy.
"She's definitely not going to move, right? Could we disturb her while we search the room?" Zhang Yu saw Yu Xing already stepping forward, so he cautiously followed.
With the captain and Boss Hua there, he did feel safe. Still, it was like going into a haunted house and finding a human-shaped figure sitting in a room. You had no idea when "it" might suddenly lunge at you and scare you half to death.
And facing this woman was enough to bring on
