Caught in a Trap!

"Dear Doctor, by the time you read this letter, I'll be dead..."

The sentence suddenly popped into Fatty's head. It would make a gripping opening for a suicide note, but he had neither pen nor paper, so he could only draft his great mystery novel in his mind.

"Thump, thump—"

Rigid footsteps echoed through the room.

Only then did Fatty realize the footsteps were coming straight toward him. They didn't pause or turn, but came directly to his bed and stopped.

The stench of rotting flesh reached its peak at that moment.

It was standing right beside his bed.

Less than half a step away.

Through the blanket, he could make out a blurry figure beside the bed. If he pulled back the covers, he'd be exposed to the ghost.

In truth, his current situation was hardly any different from being exposed.

Fatty's enormous bulk was hidden beneath a thin blanket, making it look as if a tumor had grown on the bed. It was even trembling.

The ghost would have to be blind not to see that.

Fatty had already started fumbling through his inventory, desperately searching for something useful.

Though he was sure he'd been spotted, he kept his movements as small as possible, achieving little more than a delusional sense of safety.

He pulled a lantern out of his inventory.

[Everlasting Lamp]

[Function: It emits a faint blue glow forever, illuminating a radius of twenty meters. Ghosts cannot see its light. Invisible ghosts that enter the illuminated area will immediately become visible.]

Blue light filled the space beneath the blanket, and Fatty hurriedly shoved the lamp back into his inventory.

This was no use. The ghost might not be able to see the light, but that didn't mean it couldn't see him.
