"Could this be the one with no name in the register?" Curly Hair asked.
Xu Xingcheng looked at the peeled egg. "No name and no face. The style certainly tracks."
Curly Hair was puzzled. "Since she's still hanging here, she must still be alive. But why have I never seen her? None of the female players still alive match her clothes or figure."
The faceless woman in the portrait was slender and wore a dreamy little powder-blue dress. Anyone who had seen that outfit would have remembered it easily.
"When we find Jing, ask her if she knows this woman. She's been here longer and has seen more people than you. While we're at it, we can tell her the good news that she's become one of the school's outstanding alumni." Gu Mian looked away.
"'The good news is you've been named an outstanding alumna. The bad news is that this doesn't seem to be a good thing.' Is that what you're planning to tell her?" Xu Xingcheng pitched his voice up, pretending to imitate Gu Mian.
Gu Mian looked to the side. They had reached the very end of the corridor, and a turn of his head gave him a view of what lay beyond.
Beyond the corridor was a square hall, with a glass entrance visible in the distance. Outside it was the outdoors, though they couldn't make out what was out there.
However, an access gate stood between the hall and the glass doors. It consisted of tall iron bars and required a card swipe to open.
Curly Hair stared at the glass doors from afar. "That's the library entrance. I recognize those doors."
"Looks like we'll need to find an access card if we want to get out, or figure out how to climb over," Xu
