Xu Jianfeng's words left Ning Wangshu feeling somewhat awkward. He wasn't surprised that Xu Jianfeng had found out he'd bought the right half of the Bronze mask at the Four Seas Auction.

But Ning Wangshu hadn't expected him to know that he'd secretly kept the left half of the Bronze mask from among the national treasures back then.

He had no idea how Xu Jianfeng had learned about it. Even Gu Ziyu hadn't known at the time. But after thinking it over, he could guess a few possibilities.

Most likely, they had captured some Wa Kingdom people alive and learned from them that such an item existed.

Or perhaps they'd found the records listing everything the Wa Kingdom people had dug up from the Burial pit site. When they discovered this item was missing and learned that Ning Wangshu had bought the right half of the Bronze mask at the Four Seas Auction, they'd put the pieces together.

"Since Director Xu has put it that way, how could I possibly refuse?"

Ning Wangshu smiled wryly.

On the one hand, he did feel somewhat in the wrong for secretly keeping that half of the Bronze mask.

On the other hand, Ning Wangshu genuinely wanted the final missing piece of the mask that Xu Jianfeng had brought. He wanted to put the Bronze mask back together and discover what secrets it held.

So Ning Wangshu had no reason to refuse.

Especially since Xu Jianfeng had made it clear that Ning Wangshu wouldn't have to do anything unless there was a major crisis threatening national security, and that they wouldn't interfere with his daily life.
