"We need to bring Batman back."
That was the best conclusion Shane reached in an instant.
Superman and Wonder Woman exchanged a glance, neither looking the least bit surprised.
"That's what we think too, but the Justice League and this world have far too many other things to deal with right now..."
Shane thought they were making excuses and immediately grew annoyed.
After all, he was still agonizing over the pan-dimensional magical defense core Ragman had entrusted to him.
Constantine was pushing hard, and Shane still hadn't come up with a sufficiently safe choice.
"You can't keep expecting me to handle every job that involves going to another world. Besides, you know perfectly well that Batman and I don't get along after what happened."
Of course Shane knew what they were thinking.
It was the same old reasoning: Shane had plenty of experience dealing with "other races," and he happened to have done a good job on his previous "errand runs."
But Shane hadn't finished enjoying Batman's guilt yet.
Once Batman saw with his own eyes that Shane was still alive, even if that emotionally repressed man wouldn't say anything embarrassing, who knew what looks he would give Shane behind his back. Superman protested that Shane's accusations were unfair and suggested having Cyborg display the Justice League's mountainous backlog of tasks.
