Background / History

Konoha and the Senju Family

Tsunade is a descendant of Konoha’s founding family and a disciple of Hiruzen Sarutobi. Together with Jiraiya and Orochimaru, she is known as one of the Sannin. Her medical expertise draws on the Senju clan’s extensive research into Medical Ninjutsu and Yang Release 367 455.

During Uzumaki Tamayou’s visit to Konoha, Tsunade accompanies her grandmother, Mito Uzumaki, and greets Tamayou as her aunt. She later agrees to teach Hiroshi Medical Ninjutsu and chakra control after sparring with him. Mito supports this instruction as a way of making amends to the Uzumaki clan 112 135.

Her loyalty to Hiruzen deteriorates over his treatment of her family. She is especially angered that Dan Katō, whom she had regarded favorably, carried out an order that disregarded the Senju family’s feelings. By the Land of Rivers deployment, she also confronts Danzō over the desecration of her family’s graves 140 234.

Capture and Relocation to Kumogakure

Hiroshi ambushes Tsunade while she is fighting Yozuki A, severs her limbs, and seals her away. The Little Ten-Tails purifies her chakra, and Hiroshi brands her with Yachihoko. Obtaining her expertise is one of his objectives because Kumogakure’s medical research has stalled despite access to Senju records 236.

After her limbs are reattached and healed, Tsunade attacks Hiroshi. The confrontation ends when she is brought to see Nawaki, whose surviving head is maintained in a nutrient tank. Hiroshi’s casino and film-business proposals secure her cooperation in teaching him. He also plans to build her prestige as a Fourth Hokage candidate, although she initially rejects the office outright 369 370 398.
