Silver Light Release
Tamura Hiroshi studied Minato Namikaze's Light Release and roughly determined its tendencies. It was formed entirely by combining offensive nature transformations.
For example, it combined Wind Release's cutting property, Fire Release's high-temperature property, and Lightning Release's piercing sharpness. It was easy to imagine what kind of Light Release those three properties would produce: a laser.
That made sense, too. Minato Namikaze already had the Flying Thunder God Technique for mobility. What he lacked was offensive power.
The Rasengan had enormous potential, but to use it well required an unlimited supply of chakra. It was essentially a matter of clashing head-on with raw chakra, making it inefficient to use. It was only suitable for someone with a superhuman chakra supply like Uzumaki Naruto.
Minato Namikaze's Chakra Quantity wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly impressive either, especially compared with people like the Senju and Uzumaki. He even needed to use the chakra from his Yin Seal to support his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode. In that regard, he was far inferior to the future Uzumaki Naruto.
Clearly, the Rasengan wasn't the right path for Minato Namikaze. Researching and developing an offensive Light Release like this suited him much better.
The inspiration probably came from the Sword of the Thunder God, which the Second Hokage often used. Back then, Senju Tobirama didn't have an unsealed ninjutsu like the Rasengan to pair with the Flying Thunder God Technique in battle, but he did have the Sword of the Thunder God. A lightning sword formed from Lightning Release Chakra was no weak weapon, either.
Minato Namikaze's current Light Release was undoubtedly more powerful. In terms of offense alone, it had probably surpassed Raikage Teacher's Pierce Release. However, Raikage Teacher had the Spear of Hell to bolster him, which greatly increased Pierce Release's power.
