Even before the boat docked, the people on its deck were clearly visible. The more Bai Mother Lin Ruojun saw the figures on the boat, the more grief-stricken she became.
Bai Junya looked at her parents on the shore, a hint of sorrow finally appearing on her face.
Bai Jingliang arrived late. Seeing his parents frowning, he stood aside with a hint of resentment, craning his neck to watch the pleasure boat.
As the bow of the boat neared the shore, Bai Jingliang waved his hands and shouted, "Sister!"
Bai Junya's eyes inexplicably reddened, and she waved back at him.
Dong!
The bow of the boat docked gently. The boatman lowered a gangplank, and soon two figures slowly walked down.
"Father, Mother."
Bai Junya bowed gracefully. Bai Chong'an nodded slightly, while Lin Ruojun, heartbroken, went to hug her and tenderly asked how she had been for the past month.
Sometimes, being born into a prominent aristocratic family isn't necessarily a good thing!
Hanyu couldn't help but sigh after Bai Jingliang left.
Were such incidents uncommon? Probably not. It was likely that today, what was happening with the Bai Family was also unfolding in the Zhang and Zhao families elsewhere.
Ultimately, it was someone else's family matter, and Hanyu offered no comment.
"Did you take a liking to the sister?"
The little Artifact Spirit suddenly popped up and said.
Hanyu froze and adamantly replied, "How is that possible?"
"Is her figure good?"
The Artifact Spirit's soul asked.
"Good!"
Hanyu answered from his heart.
"See? You really did have impure thoughts."
Little Glazed burst into laughter. Hanyu sheepishly rubbed his nose and stayed silent.
Suddenly, a commotion erupted on the street, as if something had happened ahead. Hanyu walked over to take a look.
People were running away. Only then did he see four tall horses pulling a magnificent carriage, driven by a handsome and well-dressed young master. Following the carriage was a group of cultivators on horseback, swords at their sides.
What a grand display!
People around were discussing, guessing which noble family's young master it was.
"Do you think a noble family would dare to ride horses within the city? Do you think the Garrison Commander is a vegetarian?" someone knowledgeable scoffed.
"Then whose family is it?" an uninformed citizen asked.
The knowledgeable person snorted a couple of times before saying, "Didn't you see the Prefectural Guards didn't dare to say a word? It must be the young master of some cultivator family on an outing."
Hanyu listened intently, thinking it was likely headed for the Bai Family.
"Enjoy yourselves outside today. Don't rush back."
Bai Jingliang forced a smile as he said to the two women.
Not long after returning home, the two women were forcefully dragged out by Bai Jingliang, who said that since they hadn't been back for a long time, they should go out and sightsee.
Linglan's calves were aching from walking, and she couldn't help but roll her eyes, saying, "I've walked around this place so much I could get lost with my eyes closed!"
Bai Jingliang just gave an awkward smile.
News had spread today that the eldest son of the Qin Family, Qin Hao, would be visiting. Upon hearing this, Bai Jingliang immediately pulled the two women out of the house.
Tianning City was the place Linglan had grown up in, and she had been here many times. They couldn't walk for long before she grew tired of it.
"Let's just walk a little longer!"
Bai Jingliang's smile was a bit strained. Bai Junya seemed to sense something and asked in a low voice.
"Is he coming today?"
Bai Jingliang's expression darkened, and he remained silent.
Bai Junya also fell silent. Linglan, not being foolish, realized what was happening. She forced a smile, went up to hug Bai Junya's arm, and said with a strained laugh, "Those clay figurines over there were made really well. Come with me to see them again!"
Bai Jingliang quickly nodded in agreement.
Bai Junya, however, was unmoved. Her eyes drooped. After a moment of quiet contemplation, she said, "Let's go back!"
Since things had already been decided, any action would be futile.
She had thought it through clearly over the past few days. She disliked cultivation, and she was born into an aristocratic family. Wanting to avoid an arranged marriage was simply a joke.
Even if it wasn't the Qin Family, any other aristocratic family like the Zhang or Li or Zhao families could be her future.
She thought she had always been a mature person. Looking back now, it was just wishful thinking and self-deception.
"It's all your fault, you don't even know how to find a place."
Linglan glared at Bai Jingliang reproachfully and said angrily.
The three were feeling a bit down and were about to head back.
"Ah! Isn't that that... strange Alchemist."
Linglan's little finger suddenly pointed at the person in front of them. Ever since the Star Sect incident, Hanyu's status in her eyes had been elevated from "bad Alchemist" to "strange Alchemist."
Hanyu was also a bit surprised when he walked towards them. Why did he keep running into people with the surname Bai recently?
Following that, his gaze involuntarily swept towards the side. Linglan was still the same as before... no progress at all.
Bai Junya was wearing a plain colored palace dress, her complexion a bit haggard, but her curvaceous figure appeared even more alluring. He hadn't expected she was still growing...
Perhaps he was staring too intently, his gaze a bit too unrestrained, which quickly made Bai Junya blush deeply.
"What a coincidence!"
Hanyu then seemed to realize he retracted his gaze, smiling awkwardly.
"Young Master Han!"
"Alchemist."
The two women greeted him simultaneously, and the difference was evident. Bai Junya gave a graceful bow, gentle and proper, while Linglan was much simpler, hands on her hips, waving.
"Hanyu, this woman has Water Spiritual Power."
Little Glazed suddenly became active in his mind.
Hanyu was stunned and glanced at Linglan with surprise. One really couldn't judge a book by its cover, was her talent so good?
"No, it's this one with the gourd-shaped figure that makes your heart flutter, Water Spiritual Power, top-grade!"
Little Glazed reminded him irritably.
This was even more incredible than Linglan possessing Spiritual Power.
Someone who didn't like cultivating, had a single-attribute Spiritual Root, and innate Spiritual Power – was Heaven forcefully feeding her?
"She just hasn't cultivated to a certain level yet and can't activate it, so no one has discovered it. Since we've run into each other, why not give her a pill!" Little Glazed enticed.
Hanyu's expression was strange. This little Artifact Spirit never showed its face without a reward. Since it took notice, it meant Bai Junya might truly be a favored child of Heaven.
The group watched Hanyu suddenly stare blankly into space. Bai Jingliang curiously reached out and waved his hand in front of him, saying, "Hanyu, what's wrong?"
Hanyu snapped back to reality, the voice of the little Artifact Spirit constantly in his mind, "Pill, pill, I want a pill..."
"It's nothing, I just remembered something else."
Hanyu chuckled awkwardly, then looked at the group, "Why don't we find a place to sit down?"
Bai Jingliang was naturally willing; he didn't want to go back so soon anyway.
The group went to the teahouse from yesterday. After sitting down, Linglan said excitedly, "I thought you had run to the ends of the earth! My master said the Sect Master is grinding his teeth at you, wishing he could eat you."
"Your master doesn't want to eat me too, does he?"
Hanyu was more curious about that old, unreliable Daoist.
When Linglan heard the old Daoist mentioned, she seemed to deflate, "You got him punished with a year of solitary confinement."
Hanyu's spirits soared. That old scoundrel deserved it; he had ruined his good deeds back then too.
Then he looked at the two silent individuals and immediately understood his guess. The young master was probably after Bai Junya.
"I'm telling you, if this woman activates her Spiritual Power, maybe she won't have to get married!"
The little Artifact Spirit was still chattering away.
Hanyu helplessly asked in his mind, "What do you want from her?"
"I want half of her Spiritual Power origin. I'll give you a little bit then, and you'll have Water Spiritual Power too!"
The little Artifact Spirit shouted happily.
This made Hanyu a little tempted, but he hesitated.
"She'll definitely need it. If she shows enough value, perhaps her family won't force her to marry."
Hanyu's hesitation was whether half the origin would cause problems.
"You say you're not interested in her, but you usually give others pills. Have you ever considered them?"
The little Artifact Spirit let out a scoff, then continued, "She won't die. The pill will activate her Spiritual Power prematurely, and I'll take half her origin. She can recover it in about ten years."
This was acceptable.
Hanyu looked at Bai Junya, hesitated for a moment, then slowly spoke.
"Miss Bai, I have an option I can give you."
Another update tonight, depending on my condition. If I'm feeling good, I'll see if I can add more.
