Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Storage Rule 905 Obtains a rule through the Heart-Questioning Illusion. It stores objects and incoming attacks within an internal space, then releases them through his Five Energies Dharma Idol. 905

Background / History

Muzi Li rose from the bottom ranks of the Heavenly Dao Sect to become an elder with real authority. He attributes much of that climb to the need to repeatedly clean up after his gambling Master, unruly Senior Sister An Lan, and impulsive Junior Brother Su Xiaoxiao. 567

Despite his status, he is known among ordinary Heavenly Dao Sect disciples for being approachable and rarely putting on airs. A long-running joke describes his household as “a gambling Master, a troublesome Senior Sister, a troublesome Junior Brother, and a broken him.” 567

When the Enlightenment Tower’s Dao Seeking Stones are stolen, Muzi Li initially suspects either his Master or Senior Sister. Learning that an outsider with Supernatural Powers is responsible, he immediately treats the incident as a possible infiltration by the Central Continent or Yanluo Hall. 567

He later identifies Hanyu as the anomalous outsider after Hanyu uses a fire Supernatural Power to resist his pressure. Though Muzi Li initially intends to capture him, their relationship develops into a wary, transactional alliance. 573 578

Appearance

Muzi Li has the bearing of a cold immortal, though those familiar with him know he is far less aloof than he appears. 567

  • Handsome features. 567
  • Snow-white hair. 567
  • Green Taoist robes. 567
  • Can suppress his aura to appear to be only at the Peeping God Realm; while concealed, his face becomes difficult to focus on. 738

Personality

Muzi Li is composed, patient, and difficult to provoke. He answers Hun Bugui’s mockery with measured insults rather than anger, taking pride in having reached the same level as an opponent who attained the Dao nearly a thousand years earlier. 695

He is deeply responsible toward his Master and fellow disciples, but that protectiveness often manifests as manipulation. He pays Hanyu to provide a false account that shields Su Xiaoxiao from the Qionghua Hall elders, then sends Su Xiaoxiao and Hanyu on a mission partly to test his junior brother’s loyalty. 709 711

His experience within the Heavenly Dao Sect has made him suspicious of grand causes and higher authorities. He concludes that the sect’s conflict with Yanluo Hall cannot be sustained by righteousness or hatred alone, and warns Su Xiaoxiao that powerful cultivators ultimately transcend simple distinctions of good and evil. 730

Muzi Li is cautious about cultivation shortcuts. He rejects the suggestion that Hanyu use pills to force him into the Divine Way Realm, emphasizing that cultivation must not be rushed. 916

Abilities & Skills

Five-Colored Divine Light

Muzi Li’s Dao Seed manifests as five-colored auspicious light, an ability whose innate quality allows him to contend with more experienced Divine Way Realm cultivators. 685 695

  • Transforms into a rainbow-like offensive force capable of sweeping through Hun Bugui’s ethereal souls. 685
  • Creates a powerful suppressive presence; his aura alone causes severe pain to Hanyu before he even attacks. 573
  • Is considered superior in foundation to Hun Bugui’s Dao of Form and Void, though Muzi Li’s shorter cultivation time leaves him at a disadvantage in sustained combat. 695

Five Energies Dharma Idol

Muzi Li’s Dharma Idol supports his combat techniques and later becomes the primary medium for his rule. 696 905

  • Leaves condensed Dharma Idol jade slips with Su Xiaoxiao as a deterrent against Hun Bugui. 696
  • Forms a cage-like barrier of five energies to block attacks. 794
  • Can reflect lightning after fully integrating his rule with the Dharma Idol. 921

Storage Rule

Muzi Li’s rule can remove targets from the battlefield, preserve them within a contained space, and return them later. 905

  • Stores broken corpses, wood, and other nearby objects. 905
  • Absorbs over a hundred incoming attacks without directly blocking or dispersing them. 905
  • Releases stored attacks at distant terrain, leveling mountains and rivers. 905
  • Can potentially collect opponents’ techniques, making it especially dangerous against Divine Way Realm cultivators without rules. 905
  • Is not yet fast enough to decisively defeat someone at Di Liuxin’s level, though Muzi Li considers it sufficient for self-preservation. 905

Spatial Movement and Concealment

Muzi Li travels through opened chasms and can relocate others with him at extreme speed. 572 696

  • Crosses an entire region so quickly that Hanyu cannot react before they reach the sea. 696
  • Suppresses his cultivation and obscures his appearance when operating covertly overseas. 738
  • Uses Heavenly Dao Sect movement methods rather than his Dharma Idol when he wishes to avoid detection. 792

Yutian Step

Muzi Li possesses advanced knowledge of the Yutian Step and tests the Commoner’s progress with it. 742

  • Pursues the Commoner through the first four steps with ease. 742
  • Demonstrates the fifth step and instructs the Commoner to comprehend, rather than imitate, the remaining steps. 742
  • States that the fourth step, “Wind Wolf,” will reveal its true power at the Divine Platform Realm. 742

Relationships

  • Daoist Zhu / the Old Daoist — Muzi Li’s Master. He is exasperated by the Gambling Taoist’s debts and recklessness, but consistently protects and respects him. 567 630 755
  • Su Xiaoxiao — Junior Brother. Muzi Li repeatedly protects him from consequences, but distrusts his judgment and tests his loyalty. 567 709 711
  • An Lan — Senior Sister. Her uninhibited behavior is a recurring source of trouble for Muzi Li. 567
  • Hanyu — Initially a suspected outsider whom Muzi Li intends to capture; later a dangerous but useful ally whom he protects, hires, and increasingly suspects is part of a larger scheme. 573 696 709 744
  • Chen Xixi — Long-standing friend whose connection to a rogue disciple forces Muzi Li to choose secrecy and loyalty over simply killing the disciple. 741
  • The Commoner — A young Yutian Step practitioner tested and instructed by Muzi Li; the Commoner is terrified but impressed by his power. 742 743
  • Quan Xiaotong — Entrusts Muzi Li with the management of Central Continent cultivators after accepting Hanyu’s judgment of him. 871
  • Hun Bugui — Yanluo Hall adversary and Divine Way Realm rival. Muzi Li can match him through superior Dao Seed quality, but Hun Bugui’s longer cultivation grants greater sustained power. 685 695
