Background / History

For thousands of years, Yanluo Hall manipulated the Central Continent through Soul Split and his avatars. Major massacres across the continent were arranged at formation nodes, with human lives used to fuel a grand formation enclosing the entire land. Yanluo Hall also spread the beast creation technique when the continent faced extinction—not to save its people, but to ensure it would not be completely annihilated. 532

The grand formation was ultimately intended to conceal the Central Continent's Heavenly Dao. Yanluo Hall spread Sin across the land and used years of preparation to sever the continent's connection to the Heavenly Dao. When the formation activated, its influence spread across every territory, and a massive grindstone appeared over the lowered sky. 684 693 700

Though treated as weak “natives” by outside factions, the Central Continent developed a distinct resistance through cooperation, pill-based advancement, body cultivation, and Mohist mechanical arts. Its cultivators began as vastly outmatched forces, yet eventually fielded thousands of Dao Walkers and mechanical Dharma Idols capable of challenging Divine Way Realm threats. 690 791 928 933

During the conflict over the Three Thousand Rules, the Central Continent became the main battlefield for Yanluo Hall, the Heavenly Dao Sect, Faceless Ones, and Dharma Idol monsters. Its forces searched for rules, defended their territories, and gradually became a third power capable of threatening factions beneath the Heavenly Human level. 898 973 979

The continent finally collapsed during the battle against Guixu and the Sea Eye. As its cultivators and mechanical forces made a final stand, Hanyu destroyed Guixu, created the Five Elements World, and used it to replace the fallen Central Continent. 1008 1010

Cultivator Society

• The Nine Sects and other major sects form much of the continent's established cultivation world. 622

Limits and Legacy

Mo Xiuwen believed mechanical arts were necessary during the Central Continent's decline but could hinder future individual cultivation if they remained dominant after the crisis. He accepted that his path might need to end so stronger individual cultivators could emerge. 1002

During the Sea Eye crisis, Mo Xiuwen led a final mechanical Dharma Idol assault despite believing it could mean the extinction of mechanical arts. 1008

Yanluo Hall's Formation

• Yanluo Hall controlled and exploited the continent for millennia through a continent-spanning formation. 532

War for the Three Thousand Rules

Jiu You and Wu Jiu took control of the Central Continent while Yanluo Hall, the Heavenly Dao Sect, and Central Continent forces searched for the Three Thousand Rules scattered across it. 898
