Yao Chen was a famed Central Plains expert known as Venerable Yao and the Continent's Number One Alchemist. In life, he reached the peak of Nine-Revolutions Dou Venerate and peak Eighth-grade Alchemist, while wielding the eleventh-ranked Heavenly Flame, the Bone Spirit Cold Flame. He originated from the Yao Clan, though he left the clan early in life for reasons not publicly known. 50 51 74

He was once a disciple of the Alchemist Tower and later founded Starfall Pavilion alongside his lifelong friend, Wind Venerate Feng Xian. His reputation remained influential across the Central Plains even after his disappearance. 264 655

Yao Chen was betrayed by his disciple Han Feng and Old Man Mu Gu, leaving him reduced to a remnant soul. He survived within the Bone Flame Ring, initially attached to Xiao Yan and absorbing the latter's Dou Qi as part of a plan to temper Xiao Yan's character before accepting him as a disciple. 50 652

When Xiao Ling identified the soul within the ring, Yao Chen revealed his identity and offered his guidance.
