Another clash with Hatake Sakumo made Yamanaka Tohru realize the flaws in both his mindset and his strength.
Yamanaka Tohru was a speed-based ninja who sought to kill with a single strike, much like Minato in the original story.
But unlike Minato, Tohru's instantaneous movement relied on Ice Release, while Minato's Flying Thunder God was a Space-Time Ninjutsu.
Tohru's Ice Release allowed him to teleport without using Chakra within a range of fifty meters. Namikaze Minato's Flying Thunder God, however, had no distance limit. As long as he had a mark, he could teleport without restriction. It was far beyond what Tohru's Ice Release could match.
It was because of this technique that Namikaze Minato could penetrate deep behind enemy lines, complete all kinds of difficult missions, and still make it out unharmed.
After fighting Hatake Sakumo, Tohru felt he needed to change the way he fought.
Tohru's idea was to use Ice Release to create Kunai similar to Minato's, or some other tool that could serve as a teleportation marker.
That way, Tohru wouldn't have to search for a suitable teleportation point among enormous chunks of ice. He could simply teleport to one of his tools.
This kind of movement could also mislead his enemies, making them think his teleportation worked just like Minato's and required a tool or a marker.
If he could refine this idea, then aside from his Lightning Body Flicker, he could also make the most of his Ice Release Teleportation.
Tohru asked Hatake Sakumo to help him refine the idea. Sakumo had recently been overwhelmed by the work at Konoha Camp, so he agreed to Tohru's request.
Over the next few days, Sakumo dumped all the camp's work on Jiraiya and helped Tohru develop a new technique in the wasteland outside the camp.
