Jiraiya hadn't expected Hatake Sakumo to agree to Yamanaka Tohru's "crazy" plan. The two of them wanted to sneak deep into the Sand Shinobi camp and kill people.
"I don't agree. Sakumo-senpai, you're the commander-in-chief on the Land of Wind front. If anyone's going, it should be me," Jiraiya said.
"Jiraiya, don't you trust my abilities? Besides, Tohru will be with me. His Ice Release Teleportation is, in some ways, no worse than Minato's Flying Thunder God. And you saw what that technique can do. If we're careful, even if we fail, we can still escape."
Hatake Sakumo's meaning was clear: he was going, no matter what. Jiraiya could only nod and agree.
Once the three of them had reached an agreement, Hatake Sakumo learned the secret technique for concealing Chakra from Yamanaka Tohru, then spent a day mastering it.
On the third night, Hatake Sakumo and Yamanaka Tohru began their operation. They planned to use the cover of darkness to infiltrate the Sand Shinobi camp.
As soon as they left Hatake Sakumo's tent, the two concealed their Chakra. Only the three of them knew about the operation, so they couldn't let Konoha's sensor ninja discover them, either.
At night, the Aburame Clan's insects handled most of Konoha's patrols. The Kikaichū couldn't detect the two of them. The Hyuga Clan ninja hadn't received any signal, so they wouldn't activate their Byakugan to check. Just like that, the two slipped through the barrier and left Konoha Camp.
The Sand Shinobi camp wasn't far from Konoha Camp. A small stretch of desert lay between them, and the two reached the vicinity of the Sand Shinobi camp quickly.
"Uncle Sakumo, wait a moment," Yamanaka Tohru called, stopping Hatake Sakumo as he prepared to move on.
"What is it, Tohru?" Hatake Sakumo asked, puzzled.
