Then he picked up the sword again, gathered himself, aimed at the candle, and made a level cut. The tip of the sword flashed past barely one or two millimeters from the candle.

The sword wasn't moving fast enough to create any kind of air shockwave.

But the candle had already been split cleanly in two.

He picked up the still-burning top half and found that the cut was smooth as a mirror, as if it had been sliced by an incredibly fine laser.
