Shangguan Hong's corpse remained at the Guard Commandant's residence for the whole day. After night fell, it was sent back to Moonlight Hall and laid in a cold little room. Two candles flickered, casting a dim yellow light. Every so often, the flames wavered, making the corpse look almost alive.
He Nu stood in the shadows, already watching it for some time.
The corpse's upper body was bare. The people at the Guard Commandant's residence had clearly washed it, leaving several wounds plainly visible. It was easy to tell the new wounds from the old.
"This man had no grudge against Shangguan Hong," she said, as if talking to herself.
Gu Shenwei stepped out of the shadows opposite her. "He failed to kill Shangguan Hong the first time, so he had to succeed the second."
He Nu looked up at the Dragon King, then fixed her gaze on the corpse again. "Moonlight Hall has a front gate."
"And walls," Gu Shenwei said. Gates were for going around; walls had to be leaped over. That was an assassin's habit.
He Nu gave a cold laugh. "Are you satisfied with my reaction?"
"I never doubted you."
"Even though the assassin used Death Sutra Swordplay?"
Gu Shenwei had already examined Shangguan Hong's corpse carefully. The fatal wound bore the unmistakable hallmarks of Death Sutra Swordplay. Judging by its precision, the assassin's skill had reached master level. Shangguan Hong hadn't even had time to draw the flexible sword at his waist.
"I can't find a reason for you to kill Shangguan Hong."
"Moonlight Hall disciples are all mad. They don't need a reason to do anything." He Nu's voice was cold, and she sounded almost proud of being called mad.
"I only want to find the killer."
He Nu fell silent for a moment.
