A Token of Allegiance
"Pick out the unreliable ones. Now."
Li Bai coldly surveyed the gangsters. It was time to clean house and get rid of the unstable elements.
Just moments earlier, he had spotted several defiant looks. Those men were all potential threats.
Gerard Rodney was no stranger to the ways of the underworld, and he understood Li Bai's words at once.
On the surface, Li Bai was helping him establish his authority and clear away obstacles to taking control of the Iron Hand Society. Behind the scenes, though, he was eliminating any unstable elements that might threaten the three agreements they had just made.
"I need a gun!"
Before Gerard Rodney had even finished speaking, a revolver came flying toward him.
The gun had belonged to the Iron Hand Society in the first place. Now it was one of Li Bai's spoils, and it was only right to return it to its original owners.
Aside from the fingerprints of Iron Hand Society members, there were no other traces on it.
"Boss, leave it to me!"
Jim, the well-fed Black man, pounded his chest. It was time to prove his loyalty to his new master.
Opportunities like this didn't come along often. If he let this one pass, there might never be another.
"Can you handle it?"
Gerard Rodney stared straight at him.
Jim was just a low-ranking member of the Iron Hand Society. If someone hadn't called out his name, Gerard Rodney might not even have remembered him.
"I, Jim, am the most loyal man around!"
The burly Black man grinned, looking utterly honest and dependable.
People who didn't know him often fell for the act.
"Then... I'll give you a chance!"
Gerard Rodney hesitated, then tossed him the pistol he had only just gotten his hands on.
