Arrival at the Oasis
An all-terrain off-road vehicle lay overturned in the sand, its engine no longer roaring.
Someone was pinned beneath it, screaming shrilly. The cries only agitated the zombies nearby.
"Blow their heads off!"
The person in the passenger seat had no time to free their companion. Standing beside the overturned vehicle, he kept firing at the approaching zombies.
Once they lost their mobility, they could barely move faster on foot than the zombies, who had been trudging through the sand. The latter could even pursue them relentlessly without tiring.
The other two all-terrain off-road vehicles didn't abandon their companion. Instead, they circled around, loyally keeping up a steady barrage and mowing down the zombies that kept lunging at them.
Whether they had chosen the wrong weapons or their aim was terrible, it took at least a dozen shots to bring down a single zombie.
They were flustered, but still couldn't stop the zombies from steadily closing in.
But their luck didn't last. The worst finally happened...
"I'm out of ammo!"
The gunfire from one of the all-terrain off-road vehicles abruptly stopped.
There was no time to think. The driver shouted, "Hurry and pull him out!"
The person guarding their companion quickly strained to lift the all-terrain off-road vehicle. The person pinned beneath it seized the chance to roll free, only to clutch his leg and scream, "My leg's broken!"
"Get in the car, now!"
One of the all-terrain off-road vehicles raced over. The person inside swung a machete, using the vehicle's momentum to slice a zombie's head clean off. He'd realized they were burning through their ammunition too quickly.
But it was already too late. The three all-terrain off-road vehicles had only a tenth or so of their ammunition left.
"Watch out!"
