Several streams of energy brushed past Shen Tang's ears in quick succession. They collided with the air, producing shrill whistles that made her ears ache and her eardrums ring. The missed attacks slammed into the iron chains, sending them shaking violently. Sparks flew, and rusty flakes scattered from the reddened links.
"Old geezer, you still won't die after all that!"
Shen Tang landed a whip kick squarely on the back of the male shadow's neck.
He flew backward and slammed into the chains, sweat spraying from his forehead along with blood spatters that burst from between his teeth, both turning into a fine mist. The male shadow shook his head hard, trying to suppress the sloshing sound in his skull. Shen Tang was about to charge when the female shadow burst out of the thick fog and brought down a whip kick of her own. Shen Tang struck first, driving her attack into the hollow behind the woman's knee. The female shadow's upper body pitched forward against her will, offering her vulnerable neck right into Shen Tang's grasp. Bone cracked. Her head lolled helplessly to one side, and she dissolved into mist.
With the troublesome stumbling blocks cleared away, Shen Tang raised a hand and drew in the long spear embedded in the chains. It flew obediently into her grasp, its red tassel dripping blood, the droplets still warm with the owner's lingering body heat.
The sound of the spear cutting through the air came half a beat later.
