Background & History
Yu Yuhan was taken in by Feng En of the Hundred Flowers Sect. When Elder Bian retained Jiang Shuo and Li Zicheng after their failed selection, he assigned them to run errands under her supervision 7.
During the Yulin famine, Yu Yuhan left the sect to aid disaster victims. She challenged Chen Zhiqing's soldiers when they violently drove refugees away, then joined Jiang Shuo and Li Zicheng in protecting them 9. She later treated an afflicted refugee with silver needles, stopping his convulsions and helping him recover from the plague 10.
Her standing within the Hundred Flowers Sect was deliberately obscured. She presented herself as an ordinary disciple, even while repeatedly disappearing or secretly leaving the sect 115 147 149. Su Tianyu later revealed that Yu Yuhan was actually the sect's Eldest Young Lady, a fact Jiang Shuo had long avoided confronting 186.
Personality
Yu Yuhan is lively, playful, and assertive in ordinary circumstances. In the Capital, she takes the lead during her reunion with Jiang Shuo, bargains aggressively with merchants, and guides him through unfamiliar places without hesitation 91 101.
When lives or investigations are at stake, she becomes markedly stern, focused, and mature beyond her years. She can assess political danger, direct others decisively, and remain absorbed in medical work to the point of ignoring her surroundings 10 47 115.
She is protective of Jiang Shuo but rarely expresses it directly. Her jealousy becomes overt when Su Tianyu's feelings for him are discussed, causing her to respond with unusual sharpness and aggression 149. She nevertheless risks herself to protect both Jiang Shuo and Su Tianyu during the Beast Taming Villa conflict 152 153.
Abilities & Skills
Medicine, Poisoncraft, and Forensic Investigation
Yu Yuhan is an accomplished healer and poison specialist who combines clinical treatment with practical investigation.
- Treated a plague victim by applying silver needles to the Baihui, Hegu, and Neiguan acupoints, halting his convulsions 10.
- Examined mutilated corpses and investigated poison ingredients in a secluded Dream Red Pavilion courtyard 47.
- Identified Wild Wood Thorn through its reaction with Spotted Snake blood, then began screening its derivative ingredients 47.
- Poisoned Sun Daoming unconscious when he became a nuisance in her workspace 47.
- Used medicinal powder against an assassin; the powder caused severe itching on exposed skin and briefly impeded his movement 48.
- Stayed behind after the assassination attempt to analyze poison residue and identify the murderer's sect 49.
Silver Needle Technique
Yu Yuhan uses silver needles as precise hidden weapons, favoring vital points, feints, and coordinated attacks.
- Fired three needles along high, middle, and low trajectories at the assassin after disabling him with medicinal powder 48.
- Supported Jiang Shuo against Shi Yubao by targeting vital points and forcing him into a predetermined retreat path 151.
- Used a staged declaration of identity to draw Shi Yuhu's attention, then fired needles at his eyes; although he deflected them, they grazed his scalp and loosened his hold on Su Tianyu 152.
- Her needles can be neutralized by a sufficiently powerful and alert opponent, as demonstrated by the assassin and Shi Yuhu 48 152.
Martial Arts and Mobility
Though she describes herself as mediocre, Yu Yuhan is a capable close-range fighter with fast hands and strong battlefield awareness.
- Disarmed a soldier with his own whip and threw him to the ground while defending refugees 9.
- Untied her own restraints and Jiang Shuo's bindings with exceptional speed during their captivity 151.
- Fought alongside Jiang Shuo to overwhelm Shi Yubao, using their complementary attacks to create unavoidable openings 151.
- Entered close combat with Shi Yuhu to keep him away from Jiang Shuo, despite being disadvantaged against a stronger opponent; she was injured by his palm strike 153.
Investigation and Strategic Judgment
Yu Yuhan quickly interprets evidence, reads conflicts between factions, and turns distractions into opportunities.
- Explained that Imperial Court soldiers at the Lingxiao Mountain scene were largely maintaining appearances while sect spies investigated openly 115.
- Considered that a killer's martial arts could be concealed among deliberately imitated techniques at the Lingxiao Mountain crime scene 116.
- Recognized the Myriad Phoenix Atlas as the central motive in Shi Yuhu's pursuit after hearing only part of the conflict 147.
- Helped arrange the pursuit of the assassin through Highland Cold Butterflies, which could trace Bitter Marigold Honey 49.
