Background

Xie Qingxuan was raised in an affluent but emotionally deprived family. Her mother was a famous singer, her father an award-winning international director, and her older sister Xie Qingyu was the Center of a world-renowned girl group. While Qingyu received affection, freedom, and a conventional childhood, Qingxuan’s parents treated her as a project to be perfected. She began piano at four, dance at five, etiquette at six, vocal training at eight, and acting at nine, with no holidays or normal childhood. 18

Her resentment was tied to the contrast between their names: Yu means beautiful jade, while Xuan refers to a jade-like stone. Qingxuan came to see herself as the lesser, replaceable counterpart to the sister her parents favored. She rebelled by pursuing a path they had not chosen for her; after becoming a successful rock musician, she returned to Great Xia and entered Haido’s Flash Dance competition. 18 286

Initially, Qingxuan viewed idols, stages, and other contestants instrumentally. Qingxuan initially appears cold, aloof, and self-contained. She avoids introductions, disregards social hierarchies, and naturally occupies the highest position available, reinforcing the public impression that she is a domineering “Great Demon King.” 11 15

Beneath that image, she is emotionally inexperienced and profoundly starved of affection. Years of isolation and enforced self-control left her direct, literal-minded, and often naïve about intimacy. Her private manner is markedly softer: she is polite, obedient when cared for, and can become openly affectionate toward people she trusts. 97 113 162

Her greatest early flaw is her utilitarian view of others. She uses [Seated Meditation] to reduce people into personality models and dream puzzles, and she plunders Shine to create better stages. However, her attachment to Chu Yuanqing forces her to recognize others as people rather than materials.
