Three Sariras bobbed up and down, their Buddha-light surging like waves. They seemed to occupy the past, present, and future, pinning down the four-colored Sword Qi nearby and counteracting its suppression. The Buddhist Kingdom expanded, glazed light spread, and white lotuses bloomed everywhere.
The Bodhisattvas and Arhats who had originally gathered around Maitreya scattered, each sitting cross-legged on a lotus and connecting with the others. Together they chanted the revered name, with Dharma Flower Forest and Great Wonderful Aspect as the keystones, forming the fundamental Buddhist barrier—the Myriad Buddhas Great Formation!
In ancient times, after Buddha entered nirvana and before Amitabha Buddha and Bodhi Ancient Buddha had acted, the Sahā Pure Land had centered its Myriad Buddhas Great Formation on Ananda and Kasyapa. They had tried to hold off the Demon Saintess and the Great Sages of the myriad heavens until their own Other Shore Beings could come to their aid.
When only an Other Shore Being could oppose another, the fact that even Spirit Mountain—with its special circumstances—had dared confront the Demon Saintess with the Myriad Buddhas Great Formation was enough to show that this fundamental barrier was as steadfast as a diamond, impervious to ten thousand tribulations.
Alas, at the critical moment, Ananda had betrayed them, and the Myriad Buddhas had fallen together. This formation had not appeared in the world again until today. But the Bodhisattvas and Arhats forming it were not Buddhas, and could not recreate its ancient splendor; nor could it be said to be complete.
