Background / History
Meng Qi began as a newly arrived young monk at Shaolin. Though uneasy in unfamiliar surroundings, he looked after the simple-minded Zhenhui and quickly distinguished himself through unusual physical aptitude and eagerness to learn. He formally crossed the first step of martial cultivation when his True Qi naturally opened his meridians. 3 4 6
His involvement with the Lord of Six Paths Samsara turned cultivation into a struggle for survival. After completing the Hidden Emperor Fortress mission, he began spending Merit Points on practical techniques, pills, weapons, and future preparation rather than pursuing unattainable divine skills. 16 81 82
At Shaolin, Xuan Bei personally tempered Meng Qi through the Golden Bell Shield's brutal cultivation requirements. Exposure to the Fire Cuckoo, Cold Turtle, and Chuiyizi's incessant noise strengthened both his endurance and his saber intent. 50 51
After leaving Shaolin, Meng Qi adopted and cultivated the identity of Su Meng, becoming known throughout the Jianghu as the Mad Saber. He repeatedly used disguises—including impersonating Tang Er—to disrupt the Tang–Ye marriage alliance, protect Tang Mingyue, and expose the Tang family's internal conspiracy. 206 207 218
His reputation rose sharply after he defeated the Wolf King at the brink of death and publicly entered Shendu as Mad Saber. He later served Six Doors during the investigation into the Emperor's death, using both political pressure and deduction to pursue the culprits. 472 477 858
Meng Qi eventually became a formal member of Immortal Traces and later Sect Master of Jade Void Palace. His path expanded beyond the Jianghu into time-space, ancient eras, the Nine Nether, and conflicts among Great Divine Abilities users. 547 1008 1274 1284
Appearance
Meng Qi's appearance changes frequently through the Eight-Nine Arcane Art, masks, cosmetics, and deliberate muscle control. In one Su Meng persona, he appears sharp-featured and heroic in black clothing with a saber at his waist; after attaining the Dharma Body, he is described as more mature, with white at his temples and a deep, restrained bearing. 228 210 938
- Often dresses as a monk, wandering swordsman, scholar, or Daoist depending on his identity. 228 461 918
- Can alter his facial structure, aura, vitality, and even species-like traits through Eight-Nine transformations. 285 437 520
- His mature Dharma Body presence evokes the erosion and accumulation of time. 938
- Can manifest multiple heads and arms in combat. 602 622
Personality
Meng Qi is sociable, quick-witted, and fond of teasing his companions, often acting as the emotional link within a group otherwise prone to silence or reserve. He uses humor even in dangerous circumstances, though his jokes can mask anxiety or careful calculation. 29 729
He is pragmatic in combat and planning. He prefers preparation, deception, information gathering, and retreat over reckless heroics, but becomes exceptionally calm when a crisis leaves no room for hesitation. 135 337 601
His moral code centers on repaying kindness and settling grievances. He intervened for Tang Mingyue because she had shown him kindness, and he remains willing to protect friends even when doing so complicates his own position. 206 442 450
Meng Qi does not consider himself an all-sacrificing idealist. He sympathizes with Qi Zhengyan's desire to expand access to cultivation, but admits he would rather mediate than pay any cost for a cause unless he possesses the strength to support it. 685

- Uses sword techniques including Flying Immortal Beyond the Heavens and later the Immortal Slaying Sword Scripture. 297 1020

- Uses the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation alone at higher realms by dividing a single sword light into multiple distinct sword qis. 1326

- The Seven Kill Stele lets him return to prior points in time and preserve memories through temporal reversals. 828 1131
- He uses time travel cautiously to preserve historical consistency while planting influences in the past. 863 1352
- After achieving Creation, he can control portions of living karma, including oaths and contracts. 1284
- He can resist attacks directed at his past self by manipulating time through the Limitless Seal. 1280
One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones
Meng Qi uses this divine ability to separate aspects of his cultivation into distinct Incarnations.
- Creates the Tathagata Golden Body, Heaven Severing Dao Body, and Indestructible Dao Body while his main body retains the Yuan Shi Daoist path. 1075
- Purifies and reorganizes otherwise conflicting cultivation methods. 1075
- His Incarnations later join his true body in forming the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation. 1347
