"You're here. Sit!"
Ye Chen had just taken a sip of water. Hearing the commotion, he knew who had arrived without even looking.
A Zhui came in and sat down without hesitation.
Seeing this, Yuan Lan promptly withdrew from the hall, gently closed the door, and waited outside.
"From everything I saw today, I can tell you're an ambitious emperor of war. To be honest, I'm starting to regret this. I don't know whether helping you like this is right or wrong."
Hearing that, Ye Chen turned to A Zhui. "You're worried I'll go against the Angel Civilization's Righteous Order in the future."
At his blunt words, A Zhui looked at him and fell silent.
Because Ye Chen had hit the nail on the head.
The Yanhuang Empire was weak right now, so under the Righteous Order, it was the side that needed protection.
The core principle of the Righteous Order was to protect the development of weaker civilizations and keep them from being harmed by more powerful ones.
But here was the problem: the Yanhuang Empire was developing too quickly. It would inevitably venture into space one day, transforming from a weak civilization into a powerful one. Given Ye Chen's nature, he would surely wage war against the civilizations around him.
By then, the balance would have shifted. The Yanhuang Empire would be the one targeted by the Righteous Order, and one side would inevitably have to yield.
If Ye Chen refused to yield, the two sides would inevitably clash.
"Would you be willing to put your faith in the angels, and abide by the Angel Civilization's Righteous Order?"
A Zhui looked at Ye Chen, her gaze serious.
"Sure. For you, I agree."
"You! I'm being serious. You know I'm asking you this sincerely."
When she heard him getting ready to flirt again, A Zhui rolled her eyes at him in annoyance.
Ye Chen was the man she loved. If nothing unexpected happened, she would become his guardian angel one day. She truly didn't want to end up fighting him.
On one side was the faith she had upheld her entire life; on the other was the man she loved. If the two ever came into conflict, caught between them, what was she supposed to do? Whose side should she take?
Of course, they weren't together yet. So if she had to choose between love and the Righteous Order right now, she would choose the latter without hesitation.
But in the future, once they were together, she knew she wouldn't be able to make that choice so easily. Perhaps she would help the Angel Civilization kill Ye Chen, then follow him in death.
Or she might help Ye Chen fight the Angel Civilization, betraying the faith in her heart. Either way, she would probably end up taking her own life.
Looking at A Zhui's serious expression, Ye Chen's thoughts raced. He knew he had to give her an answer now, or he might lose her as an ally.
All right, love shouldn't be mixed up with too much self-interest, but he was an emperor. He had to take responsibility for the empire's countless people.
He wasn't the ordinary man he had been before. When he'd first arrived in this world, he'd had nothing to lose and could do as he pleased. But now, he wasn't alone.
Just as A Zhui would choose, if he had to choose between the Yanhuang Empire and A Zhui right now, he would pick the former without hesitation.
In the future, he would still choose the former. He wasn't a lovesick fool. Before he was anyone's lover, he was a worthy emperor.
The empire came first. Love came second.
Call him heartless, call him a scumbag. It didn't change the facts.
But when that time came, given his nature, he would either die in defeat or defeat the Angel Civilization, pass the empire on to his descendants, and forcibly keep A Zhui from taking her own life. Then he would find a planet to live out the rest of his days in seclusion, never to appear again. That would be the answer he owed her.
In the great hall, the silence between them made the atmosphere grow heavy. If Ye Chen handled this poorly, he and A Zhui—who were meant to be together someday—would part ways for good.
And in the future, they might even come to blows.
Damn it, I'm the emperor, and I've got a system cheat. Why do I have to choose? If I have to choose, then I'll choose both. I won't give up A Zhui or the empire.
The former was the goddess he had loved most in his previous life.
The latter was the foundation he had built up bit by bit in this life. To him, the Yanhuang Empire was like a son he had raised with his own hands.
Now they were asking him to choose between his wife and his son. What the hell? He wasn't choosing. He wanted both his wife and his son. The three of them would stay together forever.
Besides, he had the means to have it all: the Civilization System. With the system, the Angel Civilization's Righteous Order couldn't restrict the Yanhuang Empire's development.
Thinking this over, Ye Chen made up his mind. He would calm A Zhui down for now. War was imminent, and he couldn't afford to lose his greatest ally.
So Ye Chen stood and walked over to A Zhui. He leaned down until their eyes met. "A Zhui, you want me to make a choice? All right. For you, I'm willing to abide by the Angel Civilization's Righteous Order."
As he spoke, Ye Chen gazed at her red lips and kissed her.
"Mmph..."
His sudden move made A Zhui's eyes widen. She tried to push him away, but found she didn't have an ounce of strength.
In the end, she sighed inwardly and closed her eyes.
After kissing her for a while, Ye Chen felt no resistance from A Zhui and secretly opened his eyes. Seeing her like this, he couldn't help smiling to himself. Hah, I knew I could win you over, little angel. But A Zhui's lips are so soft... and sweet. Damn, though, this armor is such a pain. It's so hard to touch her through it, and the worst part is, I can't even take it off. Shit!
Ye Chen really was shameless. He'd stolen her heart, and now he was trying to steal her body too.
He felt no guilt about it. After all, he intended to marry her. How could that be called taking advantage of her?
Taking advantage of someone without intending to marry her—that was what really counted as being a scoundrel.
Ten minutes later, they broke apart.
Ye Chen held A Zhui by her slender waist. Seeing her hazy eyes, he felt a stir of desire.
He couldn't help it. A Zhui was simply too alluring right now.
When A Zhui came to after the deep kiss, she saw Ye Chen's knowing smile—and the hand wandering over her body.
Her already rosy cheeks flushed bright red.
Then, somehow finding a surge of strength, she shoved Ye Chen away.
Boom!
The next moment, Ye Chen went flying as if he'd been hit by a semi-truck, smashing through who knew how many things along the way.
After tumbling through the air, he finally slammed into the wall with his backside.
"Cough, cough. Damn, having a superhuman wife really isn't for ordinary people. One little punch to the chest, and you're laid up in the hospital for three hundred and sixty days a year. Who the hell could take that?"
Clutching his chest, Ye Chen spat out a mouthful of blood and managed a wry smile. He felt as if his whole body was falling apart.
