Chapter 26: Su Xiaoli: A Little Reward [I picked out a set for Qilin too~]
[Mmm... Qilin looks beautiful in it.]
Angel Yan: Oh? Beautiful? More beautiful than an Angel?
Rui Mengmeng: Mmm... new clothes... I'm so envious, I haven't bought new clothes in so long...
[Qilin is acting strange today.]
Hexi: Strange? Strangely beautiful?
[Yeah, I can't quite put my finger on what's strange about her.]
Hexi: Interesting...
Hexi: It's fine, you can't tell, but I can.
Hexi: My clone will be here soon, and then I'll have my sister "take a good look" for you~
[I'm very happy today.]
Azhui: Mmm, I can tell.
[I received two little rewards from Qilin~]
Su Xiaoli: Slurp Little rewards
[I rewarded Qilin too.]
Su Xiaoli: !!!
Su Xiaoli: It's only been a few days??? And you've already won her over?!
Angel Yan: Oh? Is the Transmigrator that "capable"?
Inside the villa, Angel Yan's brow furrowed slightly.
It was only the third day.
Su Bai and Qilin's relationship had already become this... "intimate"?
Was it Qilin who made the first move, or Su Bai?
Was Qilin willing... or did Su Bai use some other means?
Su Bai...
Could he be the next... Scum Hua Ye...
"Sister Yan," Azhui noticed her emotional change and asked softly, "What are you worried about?"
"I'm worried about..." Yan's gaze fell on the line in the diary.
"I rewarded Qilin too," "What exactly was his 'reward'."
Azhui tilted her head, her face flushing as if she had thought of something.
Seeing this, Yan stopped pondering the question and began to tease Azhui.
[Xiao Xue is noisy, she went back to find the item description, she's a little unaccustomed to it.]
Hexi: Oh? Is that loneliness?
Hexi: But isn't your "Qilin sister" accompanying you right now?
Keisha: After all, in his eyes, we are all just characters in a "story"... Perhaps only Qilin can make him feel the warmth of "home".
[Arrived home.]
The diary entry ended there.
Su Bai withdrew his thoughts and opened his eyes.
The car had already stopped.
Qilin first unbuckled her seatbelt, then turned sideways and gently unbuckled his.
Then, she reached out and opened the car door for him.
Actually, even if Qilin hadn't done this, Su Bai would have done these things himself.
He only had memory loss due to soul damage, his reactions were slightly slow, and his way of thinking was different from ordinary people.
But he hadn't forgotten basic life knowledge.
However, Su Bai didn't say anything and just obediently let her do as she pleased.
Qilin also knew clearly that even if she didn't reach out to help, Su Bai could unbuckle his seatbelt and open the car door himself.
She just... wanted to take care of him.
The night was deep, and the streetlights in the residential area cast a dim, yellowish glow.
Qilin took all the clothes and vegetables bought today out of the trunk.
Seeing this, Su Bai stepped forward to help and took some of them.
Qilin didn't refuse, letting him share some of the weight.
The two walked into the stairwell, one after the other, their footsteps echoing softly in the empty space.
"Sister Qilin," Su Bai suddenly said.
"Hm?"
"Are you... tired today?"
Qilin's steps faltered slightly. She turned to look at him and smiled, "Not tired. How could I be tired when I'm with you?"
She said it naturally, but Su Bai listened with unusual seriousness.
The elevator slowly ascended, the small space holding only the two of them.
"Su Bai," she called softly.
"Hm?"
"If... when you get your memories back, will you still stay with me like you are now?"
The question came out of the blue. Su Bai froze for a few seconds, then looked up, his eyes clear and resolute.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because you're Sister Qilin," he said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Whether I remember or not, you're still you."
Qilin's eyes suddenly felt a little warm.
She turned her face away, not wanting Su Bai to see her moist eyes.
"Ding—"
The elevator doors opened.
Qilin quickly stepped out and took out her keys to unlock the door. Su Bai followed behind her, keenly sensing the shift in her emotions but unsure how to ask.
"Sister Qilin," he said quietly, "Did I say something wrong?"
"No," Qilin took a deep breath. By the time she turned back, a smile had returned to her face. "You said it very well. I... I'm very happy."
She opened the door and turned on the living room light.
The warm light instantly dispelled the darkness, and also the inexplicable melancholy in her heart.
After putting away the clothes from the shopping bags one by one, Qilin turned and went into the kitchen to start preparing dinner.
Su Bai followed her in and stood by the sink, as if it were the most natural thing to do.
"Sister Qilin, I'll wash the vegetables for you."
Qilin watched him roll up his sleeves, his movements a little clumsy but incredibly focused. She couldn't help but smile.
"Okay, you can handle the greens."
"Mm," Su Bai nodded, took the greens, turned on the faucet, and carefully rinsed each leaf.
The kitchen was soon filled with the aroma of cooking—the sizzling of the oil in the pan, the "chichis" of the ingredients hitting the hot oil, the crisp clatter of the spatula, and Qilin's occasional soft instructions.
"Xiao Bai, salt."
"Xiao Bai, soy sauce."
"Xiao Bai, plates."
Su Bai was like the most obedient assistant. He did whatever Qilin told him, his movements not fast, but almost never making a mistake.
The sky outside had completely darkened, but the kitchen light was warm and bright, casting their shadows on the wall, intertwining into a warm silhouette.
"Sister Qilin," Su Bai suddenly said, "Cooking... seems pretty fun too."
"Fun?" Qilin raised an eyebrow. "Don't you find it troublesome?"
"Not troublesome," Su Bai shook his head. "Doing things with Sister Qilin isn't troublesome."
His tone was so natural that Qilin's chopping slowed for a beat.
She looked up at Su Bai.
He was peeling garlic, his profile looking exceptionally gentle in the light. His eyelashes cast faint shadows on his eyelids, his expression so focused as if he were doing something extremely important.
—If one were to overlook the pitted garlic clove he was peeling.
"That's not how you peel garlic," Qilin put down her knife, walked over to him, picked up another clove of garlic, and demonstrated. "See? Just a gentle pinch like this, and the skin comes off."
Su Bai imitated her and tried it. It was indeed much easier.
"Sister Qilin is amazing," he said sincerely.
"What's so amazing about this?" Qilin chuckled. "It's just common sense."
"But I don't know how," Su Bai said seriously. "So Sister Qilin is amazing."
Qilin looked into his clear eyes and suddenly felt... being admired by a child who needed to be taught how to peel garlic wasn't exactly something to be proud of.
But in her heart, she felt... inexplicably happy.
The dinner was quickly prepared.
A simple meal of three dishes and one soup: Chili Pepper Pork Shreds, Scrambled Eggs with Tomato, Stir-fried Green Vegetables, and a pot of Seaweed Egg Drop Soup.
The two sat facing each other. Qilin filled Su Bai's bowl to the brim with rice.
"Eat more. We walked so much today."
"Mhm." Su Bai took the bowl but didn't immediately pick up his chopsticks. Instead, he first took a bite of Chili Pepper Pork Shreds and placed it in Qilin's bowl. "Qilin, you eat more too."
Qilin was taken aback for a moment, then smiled.
"Okay."
Dinner proceeded in a quiet and warm atmosphere.
Su Bai ate with particular earnestness, chewing each bite slowly as if savoring a delicacy.
Watching him look so content warmed Qilin's heart as well.
