Background

Tang San studied in the Tang Sect before coming to the Douluo Continent. By his early days at Shrek Academy, nearly twelve years had passed since that arrival. Hearing Ye Xingchen mention the Tang Sect unsettles him because it is the first time he has heard an outsider use that name in this world 43.

He is the son of Tang Hao and Ah Yin, the first Blue Silver Emperor, who became Tang Hao’s partner after taking human form as a hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast. His paternal lineage connects him to the Clear Sky Sect and its former sect master, Tang Chen. Grandmaster initially distinguishes him from a legitimate sect successor because Tang Hao had been expelled 79 273 304.

Tang San comes to Shrek Academy with Xiao Wu at his teacher’s direction. His Blue Silver Grass had previously been dismissed as a trash Martial Soul, but he continued cultivating it rather than abandoning it 32 40.

Personality

Tang San initially shows confidence in his teacher and perseverance toward cultivation. He also objects to the privileges Ning Rongrong’s money buys at Shrek Academy, arguing that such treatment encourages a bad atmosphere 32 38 40.

His attachment to Xiao Wu becomes possessive after she grows closer to Ye Xingchen. Although she explicitly regards him only as a brother, he treats her affection and his own expected glory as things Ye Xingchen has stolen. His jealousy repeatedly overrides tactical judgment, including warnings about exposing the Clear Sky Hammer 44 50 52 79.

His pride increasingly damages his relationships with teammates. He resents waiting for Oscar’s Soul Ring absorption, leaves the group to prove his independence, and later injures Oscar. Zhao Wuji and the other students openly criticize his refusal to act as part of a team 60 63 65.

Despite boasting that he never bows to anyone, Tang San will submit when someone important to him is threatened: he offers himself as Ye Xingchen’s slave to spare Grandmaster and later promises not to escape captivity if Yu Xiaogang is released. Shrek Academy and the Rivalry with Ye Xingchen

Tang San recognizes Ye Xingchen’s unusual strength early, admitting that without hidden weapons he might not withstand even one sword strike. Xiao Wu’s growing distance turns that apprehension into jealousy, leading him to challenge Ye Xingchen in the forest and again in the Soul Fighting Arena. Both confrontations end in defeat 35 44 45 48 50.

During the Star Dou Great Forest expedition, he leaves the team to find his own Soul Ring and is captured by Erming. His conduct worsens after the rescue, including an attack on Oscar. Grandmaster later arranges his Soul Elder breakthrough, but his renewed challenge ends with the Clear Sky Hammer cracked and both master and disciple beaten unconscious 60 63 65 75 80 82.

Heaven Dou Royal Academy and Captivity

After the split with Shrek, Tang San and Grandmaster become members of Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Tang San resolves to cultivate for the Advanced Soul Master Competition, but Dugu Bo abducts him at Ye Xingchen’s request. A control bead is used to force him to refine medicinal treasures in the garden 98 100.

Tang San later escapes with Yu Xiaogang while both lack Soul Power. Ye Xingchen and Dugu Yan recapture them, and Tang San promises not to flee again while pleading for his teacher’s release. He subsequently appears as the leader of the victorious Heaven Dou Royal Team 121 137.

Spirit City Tournament

Spirit Hall targets Tang San during the journey to Spirit City, forcing him to reveal rank-49 strength. Tang Hao’s intervention protects him and restores his confidence 154 156 160.

At the tournament, Tang San first attempts to reveal Xiao Wu’s secret before Bibi Dong stops him. After Ye Xingchen destroys his Tool Soul Avatar, he openly identifies Xiao Wu as a hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast and urges Spirit Hall to act. Ye Xingchen attempts to kill him, but Tang Hao intervenes 167 176 177.

City of Slaughter and Moonlight Pavilion

Training under Tang Hao raises Tang San to level 55, but Ye Xingchen still overpowers him and steals his antidote pills. Tang San later fights Hu Liena and enters Hell Road, where Ye Xingchen captures him and removes his Blue Silver Domain 184 193 198 199.

At Moonlight Pavilion, Ye Xingchen’s impersonation leaves the real Tang San treated as an impostor. Ye Xingchen defeats him and injures his throat, leaving him unable to speak. Tang Yuehua eventually frees him from a water dungeon, after which he renews his vow of revenge 205 206 209.

Sea God Island Trials

Grandmaster proposes Sea God Island as Tang San’s best route to surpassing Ye Xingchen. Tang San accepts despite warnings that he may never return, reaches the island, and gains permission to take its trials through his connection to Tang Chen 245 273.

After Ye Xingchen casts him into the ocean, Tang San encounters Poseidon, who offers an inheritance as an alternative to drowning. Unknown to him, Poseidon intends to possess his body 295.

Divine Power and Wider Conflicts

The Sea God’s power raises Tang San to level 99. He joins the assault on the Heavenly Court and threatens its destruction, but retreats when Ye Xingchen overwhelms his power. He then bargains with the Black Blood Shadow, sacrificing half his soul for godhood and the Death God’s power 296 299 301 302 304.

On the Five Elements Continent, his awakened devouring ability withstands several divine attacks but cannot absorb Ye Xingchen’s power. He escapes in black light. Later, he gains the Nalan Clan’s support by offering cultivation and hidden-weapon techniques, becoming its young clan leader 329 340.

Soul Sealing and Return

Ye Xingchen eventually tears Tang San’s soul from his body and seals it in jade to prevent reincarnation. After Ye Xingchen’s subsequent disappearance and return to Blue Water Star, Tang San is no longer detectable inside the jade; the supplied passages do not explain how he escapes 355.

Tang San later appears with the Clear Sky Hammer intact, obtains the Chaotic Ancient Great Emperor’s inheritance, and flees Wang Teng. Ye Fan and the big black dog also hunt him, forcing him to escape with a Void-Breaking Talisman 390 412 413 418.

Asura Great Emperor and the New Tang Sect

Supported by the Dark Heavenly Venerable and the Dark Supremes, Tang San gains enough strength to battle Ye Fan beneath the starry sky. He subsequently attains the Dao, becomes a Great Emperor, and proclaims himself the Asura Great Emperor 425 430.

He establishes the Tang Sect as an organization dedicated to opposing Ye Xingchen, inviting anyone who shares that objective to join him and declaring ceaseless campaigns across the universe 430.
