With so much food, Harry showed no restraint. After eating, his belly had grown huge. He rubbed it, a smile spreading across his face. "Coming to Hogwarts was definitely the right choice. This is bliss!"
"You really are a little pig." Hermione looked at Harry disdainfully. Why? Because Harry had actually finished everything in front of him, then set his sights on Hermione's food...
After most people had finished eating, the food suddenly vanished, replaced by all sorts of puddings. Harry stared at them with wide, unwilling eyes, finally understanding what it meant to have the will but not the strength!
"I miscalculated! There were desserts too!" Harry looked down at his bulging stomach, then gazed enviously at Hermione, who was happily eating.
Hermione looked delighted. "Wow, so much! This is ice cream! This is apple pie, chocolate cake, and rum-soaked jam pudding, strawberries, jelly..." She pointed them out one by one.
"Eh, Harry, what's wrong? You don't look too well." Hermione looked at Harry with concern, while not forgetting to stick out her pink tongue and lick the ice cream in her hand. Her eyes were as innocent as could be, and her expression as adorably smug as could be.
She was definitely doing it on purpose!
Harry forced a smile. "I'm fine..."
Hermione gave an understanding "oh." "I get it. Do you think you don't have enough dessert? It's okay, you can have mine. I don't mind!" As she spoke, Hermione pushed a plate of cream pudding in front of Harry.
Harry silently tilted his head back, doing his best not to let the tears fall from his eyes. "Heavens, why are you tormenting me like this?!"
Seeing Harry's unwilling expression, Hermione could not help laughing. "Hmph, that's what you get for eating mine earlier. Regretting it now?" Harry could only silently nurse his sorrow, staring mournfully at the desserts before him. Sorry, I've let you all down!
Amid Harry's endless dejection, Hermione's endless showing off, and the freshmen's excitement, the feast finally came to an end!
The desserts on the plates suddenly disappeared. Hermione said disappointedly, "Why are they gone already? I haven't had enough yet."
Enough already! Harry roared inwardly.
Hermione was definitely not disappointed because she had not eaten enough dessert. She was disappointed because she could no longer show off in front of Harry!
Hermione had not actually eaten much. It was just that... "This is so sweet, Harry. Don't you want one?" Hermione narrowed her eyes, looking utterly pleased.
"...What is this? I've never seen it in the Muggle world. It looks delicious..."
Harry suddenly recalled a Western story: a priest said not to put down your fork, because you never knew whether the next dish might be one you liked!
From that, he drew a conclusion: he had to develop a good appetite. From now on, no matter how grand the feast, he would be able to eat from beginning to end!
The Gryffindor freshmen had already begun chatting. They talked about their families, while Neville introduced the various hardships his family had put him through in order to prove he possessed magic!
It really had not been easy for that kid to survive!
Professor Dumbledore stood up, and the hall seemed to become oppressive as it fell silent.
Harry yawned. Seriously, Western schools have this routine too? All he wanted now was to return to the dormitory and get some proper rest.
Harry had no interest in Dumbledore's talk about not using magic in the corridors, which places were forbidden, and so on. Hermione, however, listened attentively and even seemed to want to write it down, though Harry's amused expression made her abandon the idea.
"Now, let us sing the school song!"
Hogwarts
Hogwarts
Hogwarts
Hogwarts
Please teach us knowledge
Whether we are bald old men or children with skinned knees
Our minds can take in some interesting things.
Because our minds are empty now
Filled with air, dead flies, and trifles
Teach us something worthwhile
Give back to us
What we have forgotten
Just do your best
Leave the rest to us
We will study hard
Until we turn to dust.
"This awful song!" Harry did not sing at all. He merely listened to how everyone else turned it into some divine masterpiece!
"Now, the prefects will lead the freshmen to the dormitories to rest," Dumbledore announced loudly.
Harry nearly jumped for joy. He had been waiting far too long.
Percy led them out of the hall, through the galleries and staircases. Harry had spent ten hours on the train and desperately wanted to lie down on a soft bed and sleep until he woke naturally.
But someone just had to get in the way...
Percy suddenly stopped, his expression ugly. "Peeves, what are you doing?"
A transparent ghost appeared before them, floating in midair. It was a little dwarf with a pair of wicked black eyes and a wide mouth, hovering cross-legged in the air with a wooden wand in both hands.
"Haha, freshmen are so fun!" he shrieked, passing through the middle of the freshmen and sending chills through their bodies. The freshmen all looked frightened.
Hermione hid beside Harry, clutching his arm tightly.
Harry said gently, "You know, my arm really hurts." Hermione's face reddened, but she still did not let go.
"Aren't you not afraid of ghosts at all? You weren't this scared when you saw the Bloody Baron in the hall earlier."
"There were so many people in the hall earlier, and it was so bright. Of course I wasn't afraid," Hermione explained softly. Now, only children were walking through this dim corridor, and portraits of pale-faced people whispered on the walls. The eerie atmosphere was even stronger.
Peeves seemed to have had his fill of fun, terrifying the little lambs until they trembled all over.
Ron's teeth chattered. "Percy, can't you use magic to drive that thing away?"
"Were you only focused on eating earlier? Headmaster Dumbledore said students aren't allowed to use magic in the corridors, and hurting a ghost requires Dark magic. How could I possibly know that?" Percy said angrily.
Anyone who keeps me from enjoying food and sleep is an enemy! Oh, except beautiful girls!
Harry watched Peeves happily flying ahead of them and thought of a saying: No trouble, no death!
"Hey, Peeves, right? I have something for you!" Harry suddenly said. Peeves froze for a moment, then cried out, "It's the famous Harry Potter!" He rushed over, cackling as if he wanted to scare Harry.
When Hermione, standing beside Harry, saw the frightening-looking ghost charging toward her, her body went limp and she was about to fall. Harry hurriedly caught her.
Then he raised his left hand. A warm ball of light suddenly appeared in it. He threw the light at Peeves, and then...
"Ah..." Peeves suddenly let out a miserable scream, so horrifying that it made everyone's hair stand on end. Peeves shot backward, stared at Harry in terror, then fled through the wall at top speed.
"This..." The students were all dumbfounded, unable to understand what had happened.
A student from the Muggle world said, "Was that a flashbang?"
Hermione asked, "What was that just now?" Harry went weak all over, as if he were about to collapse against Hermione. "Dear, I really want to sleep. Can I tell you tomorrow?"
Whether Harry had deliberately fallen against Hermione or had genuinely dozed off, no one knew.
Filled with curiosity, Percy led them to the dormitories. Exhausted, Harry did not carefully inspect where he would be staying. But when the boys and girls separated, Hermione quietly leaned close to Harry's ear and whispered, "Good night!" That warm feeling eased some of Harry's drowsiness. Then he flopped onto his bed and fell asleep.
Luo Bei: Whenever I read Harry fanfiction, I always find so many copy-pasted plotlines. For example, in these two chapters, all of Dumbledore's rules were copied wholesale, amounting to thousands of words. And during the school song, Ron's brother sang it to the Funeral March while Dumbledore personally conducted the rhythm. Those plotlines are all everywhere! I'm speechless. Rather than reading that, I might as well read the original!
