I Went Off to Fight a Field Battle...
(The previous chapter has an extra thousand words, don't forget to read it...)
When morning came, Harry was the first to wake up. Waking at a fixed time every day was a habit he had developed over a long time.
Harry had only focused on sleeping yesterday, so he had not had time to inspect the dormitory. After waking up today, he quietly got out of bed, not wanting to wake the other students still sleeping in the room.
After getting dressed and washing up, he began wandering around the dormitory. They lived in a tall tower, with an empty four-sided pyramidal ceiling overhead. There were windows beside the beds whose lower edges nearly touched the floor. Standing by one, Harry could see many buildings with spires and several large courtyards.
There were five people in their dormitory, and every bed even had red curtains around it!
Come on, it wasn't like he was playing Pink Temptation! Harry felt utterly miserable. Just imagining himself sitting on the bed while others watched him from outside gave him chills!
Harry folded his blanket and walked out of the dormitory. Outside was a spiral staircase. Once he went down, he saw Gryffindor's common room.
It was not only spacious, but comfortable as well. A round red carpet covered the floor, cushioned chairs were arranged in a circle, and there was a fireplace against the wall. It must have been incredibly cozy in winter! On the other side was a door. That was... the girls' dormitory!
That was way too reckless, wasn't it! The boys' and girls' dormitories were actually together. You could just push open the door and walk in, and there wasn't even some high-level creature like a dorm matron around!
They really weren't taking boys seriously at all! As one of the boys, could Harry stand for this? Could Harry stand for this? Could Harry stand for this? Harry could stand for it!!! (Luo Bei: Don't cough up blood, this is love! Ahahaha...)
Harry pushed open the dormitory's main door and looked back. There was a plump woman on the door. It seemed she was the "intelligent door-guarding elf." Without the correct answer, she would never open the door!
After Harry walked down the long corridor, a cold wind blew straight into his face. Harry began running through the school. The school was huge, and many of the rooms and staircases looked the same. Without getting familiar with the place for a while, it would be easy to get lost.
Hogwarts was a castle dominated by shades of gray. Harry ran along the pillars as he familiarized himself with the route. He controlled his breathing rhythm and only exercised in several courtyards. About half an hour later, he returned to the dormitory.
"Password..." the Fat Lady asked.
"...I didn't hear it yesterday. Besides, I just came out of here. Don't you remember?"
"Password..."
Harry: "..."
He pounded hard on the door, hoping someone would hear him and come open it. The Fat Lady glared at Harry, furious. Harry did not care about her at all. You wouldn't give him the answer, and you wouldn't let him cheat either? Dream on!
Unexpectedly, after Harry knocked only twice, the door opened.
The person who opened it looked confused, apparently wondering who was knocking on Gryffindor's door.
"Why are you outside?" Hermione looked rather surprised. Yes, it was Hermione, and she was still holding a book.
As expected of Hermione!
Harry hurried inside. "I went off to fight a field battle!... Haha, just kidding. I went for a run, but that old lady at the entrance insisted that I give her the password before she'd let me in. Still, I didn't expect you to get up so early to read!"
Hermione brushed the hair hanging in front of her back. "The prefect told us yesterday that the password was 'Dragon's Lair.'"
"By the way." Hermione fixed Harry with her cute eyes. "What spell did you use to drive away Peeves yesterday? I don't think I saw you use a wand."
"Well..."
Hermione's gaze turned dangerous, though Harry still found her just as adorable.
"You said yesterday that you'd tell me today." Hermione seemed to realize that her threat was ineffective, so she switched to an emotional approach. She hid her face behind her book and sniffled softly. "You don't keep your word, you heartless man..."
"...It's like I did something terribly awful."
"Fine, I'll tell you."
"Then hurry up and tell me." Hermione's expression changed faster than anything.
Although Harry knew Hermione was pretending, he still rolled his eyes at the sight.
In truth, even Harry had been startled by the effect of that glow last night. As for what it was, he had to start with Diagon Alley.
When Harry had been thinking about magic, he could not help recalling the magic from novels. That kind of magic used meditation to grow close to the elements, allowing one to cast highly destructive spells.
There was a huge difference between the two. Though the magic in novels was highly destructive, and forbidden spells could even destroy cities, all of it seemed to be meant for attack. It could not compare to the magic in Harry Potter at all. The magic here was not primarily for attack; it was far more wondrous. For example, it could make photographs move. With a spoken command, it could make what you were looking for fly to your side. It could open closed doors. An ordinary broom only needed someone to sit on it before it could fly. It could turn one thing into another... Though none of it seemed particularly impressive, it felt like a kind of creative power!
The difference between the two could be understood this way: the former was a level-100 human, while the latter was a level-1 god. Humans might possess tremendous power, but they could never surpass gods.
Still, Harry wanted to see whether elements truly existed. To his surprise, on the third day of meditation, although his eyes were clearly closed, he saw some tiny glowing points. After many experiments, he discovered that the most numerous kind of light point he could see was pure white. As Harry meditated more frequently, he could sense more and more of them. In the end, he simply named them Light Elements.
When he had bullied Peeves, he had only wanted to test them. He had not expected them to truly be the legendary Light Elements capable of restraining dark magic. Hehe, Voldemort still seemed to be in a ghost-like state right now!
Getting back to the point, Harry stretched out his hand, and a point of light appeared on his palm. Slowly, more and more points of light emerged, becoming a larger point of light.
Hermione considered it. It seemed that the first point of light had not been a single one, but a collection of many smaller points.
Hermione touched it with a finger. It seemed to have a temperature.
"What exactly is this?" As a top student, Hermione's thirst for knowledge finally could not be restrained.
Harry said awkwardly, "I only just discovered it too. I don't know what it's for, but it definitely isn't any magic we know."
"You can't tell anyone about this, okay?"
"Then why did you tell me?" Though Hermione sounded dissatisfied, no one disliked the feeling of being trusted.
"I understand," Hermione said.
"When I figure it out later, I'll tell you. For now, shouldn't we be going to class?"
Luo Bei: Don't worry about the Light Elements. They're useless, won't create any light magic, and won't interfere with the wizarding world.
As for the comparison between the two kinds of magic, that's just my immature idea. I don't know whether anyone has thought of it before. If so, you can tell me.
