You Brought This on Yourself

This class ended very quickly. Perhaps it was the first time all the new students had felt a lesson was so short.

When they heard Madam Hooch blow her whistle and call them together, she announced that class was over and told them to leave their Flying Broomsticks behind. They all sighed in unison. They had not had nearly enough fun yet.

Seeing the unsatisfied looks on their faces gave Harry goosebumps.

After this class, the morning lessons were over. The students gradually made their way back into the school, preparing to enjoy a grand meal in the dining hall. Judging by the way they chatted as they walked, though, Harry was bound to remain the topic of discussion at lunch.

Individual heroism really was the favorite of Western countries!

At lunch, Hermione asked curiously, "What did Professor McGonagall say to you during Flying class today? You looked so serious afterward."

"Was it that obvious?" Harry asked weakly, slumping over the table.

Hermione nodded hard, making her hair bounce.

"Uh... Professor McGonagall asked me to join Gryffindor's Quidditch Team."

"What?!" Hermione cried out, her eyes wide as though she had heard something utterly shocking.

Harry had been troubled by the matter, but seeing the usually composed Hermione make such a surprised and adorable expression suddenly lifted his mood somewhat.

Hermione said excitedly and incredulously, "How is that possible? You're still a first-year! According to the rules, according to the rules..." She did not even know how to put it into words.

Harry said smugly, "What can I say? I'm just that outstanding. Even the school has to make an exception for me!"

Hermione rolled her eyes. "Then what is there to be troubled about? If other people found out that you joined the Quidditch Team as a first-year, who knows how jealous they'd be."

"But I turned her down," Harry said blandly.

Hermione froze. Her eyelashes fluttered like tiny fans. "What did you say? You... turned her down? Did I hear that right?"

"That's right. You heard correctly!"

Hermione exploded. "Are you an idiot? You wouldn't even accept something this good!" She crushed the bread in her hand flat, as if anything less would not be enough to soothe the public outrage.

The enormous dining hall was instantly silenced by Hermione. The other students stared at one another, all startled by her outburst.

Hermione realized just how loud she had been and immediately lowered her head. After a moment, the dining hall returned to its previous state of hushed whispers.

Hermione glared at Harry, blaming him for all of it. "Then what's with that expression on your face?"

Then realization dawned on her, and she looked at Harry with contempt. "Tsk, tsk. Don't tell me you regret it now and want to join the team after all?"

"No." Harry was helpless. Was that really the kind of person Hermione thought I was?

"I saw that Professor McGonagall looked rather pitiful, so I told her I'd think about it."

Hermione gave a hollow laugh. "Judging from how you look now, it seems you were just deceiving Professor McGonagall, weren't you?"

"Yeah, so I really don't know what to do now."

"If you don't like it, just tell her quickly that you won't join the team!" Hermione practically hated him for not living up to expectations.

Harry rolled his eyes. "You make it sound so easy. Let me ask you something. If your parents said they might give you ten thousand pounds a week from now, would you be happy?"

"Of course I'd be happy." Hermione's eyes gleamed with golden light.

"But if your parents told you the next day that they would not give you the money after all, what would you do?"

Hermione said, "I..."

"So now you understand my inner struggle, right?" After saying that, Harry found that he actually felt much better!

Sure enough, Merlin had been right: sharing negative emotions reduced them by half!

Hermione also fell into a dilemma. In the end, the conversation concluded with her gritting her teeth and saying, "You brought this on yourself."

After lunch, Harry took a deep breath and said to Hermione, "The thing I asked Hagrid to make should be ready. Let's go take a look."

As Harry headed out, he passed the long tables and, sure enough, many people were discussing his brave performance.

If this had happened in China, he might have been labeled as someone who broke discipline, loved showing off, and liked playing the hero. As for helping others in need? Heh, that would come last.

After leaving the school gates, the vast green fields made him feel much better.

Before they even knocked, they heard Hagrid's dog, Fang, start barking.

"Oh, quiet, Fang. I wonder who's come?" Hagrid's rough voice could be heard from far away.

The moment the door opened, Hagrid hugged Harry with delighted surprise. "Haha, welcome, Harry! I think I can smell pies."

Your nose is even better than Fang's.

Harry had saved ten pies from lunch for Hagrid, though he felt they would only be enough to fill the gaps between Hagrid's teeth.

He handed Hagrid the bag of pies. "There are several flavors. I didn't know which one you liked, so I brought some of each."

Hagrid roughly tore open the bag, grabbed a pie, and stuffed it into his mouth. "Mm, delicious indeed," he mumbled. "Much better than what I make myself."

"Oh, right." Hagrid spoke as he ate. "You came to get that... chess set, didn't you? I've already finished it. Take a look and see if it's all right."

Hagrid crouched down and pulled a wooden box out from beneath the bed. Its base was square and quite large, probably taking up half a table, but it was only about two fingers high.

Hagrid placed it on the table. The box itself was separate from the base, and when Hagrid lifted the box, only the board beneath remained.

Luo Bei: Today, I wrote Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as having two classes in the morning and two in the afternoon. I'm not sure whether that's correct.

I looked it up, but it seemed the original work never mentioned it, so I based it on real-life school schedules in the United Kingdom.

In the United Kingdom, students have no more than five classes a day... Suddenly, my heart hurts. We have eight classes every day, plus two hours of morning reading, three evening self-study periods, and noon tutoring. I'm seriously speechless.

Also, it seems Potions class is held three times a week, which works out to around four classes a day. Friends, are you jealous?

But I have a question: what do they do every Sunday? I couldn't find anything in the original work. Do they attend self-study classes, go to the library, or stay in the common room?

If anyone knows, please tell me.
