The Professor Taken Care Of
Over the course of that week, Harry had also prepared a truly grand gift for Neville.
If the other teachers were enough to bring about a change in Neville's personality, then Harry's grand gift would deliver a tremendous shock to Neville's young heart.
That grand gift was, naturally, Snape.
Who, after all, was the person Neville feared most—the one who always called him an idiot and had never once shown him a kind face?
Who else could it be but that man who was like a Dark Lord?
The gloomy dungeon—this was Professor Snape's office.
Professor Snape wore black robes, as though he were concealed within the darkness itself. He raised his head slightly, proud and cold.
His pale face, icy gaze, and mocking curl of the lips made no attempt to hide his dislike for Harry.
But what truly angered him was that the boy standing before him seemed blind, as if he had seen nothing at all. He still wore a smile that was both warm and respectful.
Are you blind? Can't you tell that I've been targeting you this whole time, that I absolutely hate you?
He secretly took a deep breath and said with disgust, "The famous Harry Potter. What do you want from me?"
Harry smiled. "I'd like to ask Professor for a favor."
Snape said exaggeratedly, "Oh, what an honor... Is that what you were hoping I'd say?"
"Unfortunately, I'm not that idiot Flitwick. Get out of here at once. If you stay here one second longer, I'll find it hard to breathe."
If it had been the original Harry from the books, he probably would have been angered to tears already.
Still, Harry had to admit that the professor's talent for sarcasm was truly formidable!
Harry did not move. He stood where he was as if he had not heard the professor's order to leave. Now he had become deaf again!
Snape finally lost his patience and said irritably, "You'd better give me a good reason!"
Harry revealed a victorious smile. This was exactly what he had expected, wasn't it?
He said, "I'd like to ask Professor to award Gryffindor points in Potions class because of Neville's performance."
Snape looked as though he had heard the greatest joke in the world. He said mockingly, "Neville's performance? Award points to that idiot? Do you have any idea how many cauldrons he has blown up in Potions class?"
Even with Harry's thick skin, his face reddened slightly. After all, Snape was telling the truth. (Harry said angrily, "Author, explain yourself! Who has thick skin? Who are you calling thick-skinned? Don't run! Don't worry, dinner's on me...")
He smiled awkwardly. "That's why I'm asking Professor for help. Besides, I've performed so well since the start of term, yet you haven't awarded me a single point. Couldn't you just give some of those points to Neville instead?"
Snape's face seemed to twitch faintly in the darkness, though Harry was not entirely sure...
Snape said nothing and simply closed his eyes. The office fell silent at once.
Harry suddenly thought, bored, that if someone pointed a wand at him right now—whether it was Hermione, Dumbledore, or Voldemort—Snape would probably pull out his wand without hesitation and hit them with an Avada Kedavra!
Seeing that the professor remained the same, Harry turned and left the dungeon, gently closing the door behind him.
Only then did Snape open those eyes, darker and more sinister than the darkness itself, though no one knew what he was thinking.
Outside the dungeon, Hermione stood waiting for Harry, looking bright and lovely.
She said, "Why would you think of Professor Snape? Any other teacher might agree to such a request, but Professor Snape never would. It's already a blessing that he didn't find some excuse to punish you!"
Hermione was not saying that without reason.
Two days earlier, outside the library.
Hermione blushed as she handed Harry a book.
Harry asked in confusion, "What is this?"
Trying to sound casual, Hermione said, "Didn't you suddenly say you wanted to join the Quidditch Team? I thought you probably didn't know much about Quidditch. This book contains a lot of information about it. I finished reading it not long ago, and I thought it would be helpful to you, so I borrowed it for you."
Harry turned the book over. It was The History of Quidditch, with someone flying on a Flying Broomstick on the cover.
"Thank you." Harry affectionately patted Hermione's little head.
But Harry did not know what had really happened:
There were quite a few girls who loved Quidditch. Hermione had heard the girls in her dormitory mention this book while discussing Quidditch, so she had come to the library to find it.
Amid the vast sea of books, even though everything had been carefully categorized, Hermione had still spent over an hour finding it.
Hermione would never tell Harry any of this. She did not want him to feel grateful to her.
Yet although Harry did not know these things, it did not change his feelings for Hermione.
Their gazes met, filled with tenderness and affection. What a poetic, picturesque scene!
But Merlin had said it well: the skies could change without warning, and people could have their tragic moments...
It was as if even heaven could not stand watching them flaunt their affection any longer. Qixi Festival had already passed—didn't they know that?!
Thus, a pair of dark hands appeared and instantly shattered the beautiful atmosphere. (Luo Bei: Oh ho ho, beautiful...)
The malice of those hands could be compared to the Jade Emperor ruining the love between the Third Holy Mother and Liu Yanchang, or to the Queen Mother of the West ruining the love between Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. (Luo Bei: What kind of people are this married couple?)
Snape appeared beside them without a sound, reached out, and snatched away The History of Quidditch. With a smile that did not reach his eyes, he said, "Hogwarts rules prohibit books from being taken out of the library. Don't you know that? Gryffindor loses five points because of your stupidity!"
He did not give Harry or Hermione a chance to speak. Holding the book, he gave a cold snort and left.
His black robes trailed along the ground like rolling waves.
Harry and Hermione could only smile bitterly.
There was no such rule at all! And if he had truly seen what happened, he could not possibly have failed to know that Hermione had borrowed the book.
It could only be said that he simply wanted to show how much he disliked Harry.
Back to the point.
Harry said confidently, "Not necessarily."
Hermione said, "Did Professor Snape agree? That's unbelievable."
"Uh, not exactly. Actually, he didn't say anything."
"Then he definitely rejected you," Hermione said with absolute certainty.
Harry smiled faintly. "I think he'll definitely agree."
"If you don't believe me, let's make a bet."
Hermione hesitated and bit her lip. "You didn't lie to me? The professor really didn't say anything?"
Harry said, "I swear on Merlin!"
"Fine!" Hermione made up her mind.
"But what are we betting on?" Hermione asked.
