This Charms Class was a joint session for Ravenclaw and Gryffindor.
Ethan had arrived a full hour early.
When he entered the classroom, as expected, there was no one else inside.
Ethan looked around the classroom with curiosity.
The classroom was tiered, with two rows of long desks surrounding the podium.
Tall bookshelves stood on both sides. Ethan walked over to take a look; most of them contained school textbooks, along with teaching aids like three-dimensional magical models.
Ethan sat in the first row closest to the podium, opened his book, and began to read with great interest.
The first Charms Class was held with Ravenclaw and Gryffindor together.
Ethan was the first student to enter the classroom.
He immediately chose a seat in the front row, opened his textbook, and reviewed the material they were going to learn today.
The wall clock ticked away.
About half an hour later, the second student finally walked in.
"Ethan?"
Hearing the surprised call, Ethan turned around and, unsurprisingly, saw the overachiever Hermione.
The top student who single-handedly raised the IQ of the trio.
"Good morning, Hermione," Ethan said with a smile. "You're here very early."
"..."
Hermione didn't know how to respond.
She had thought that arriving half an hour early was already quite early.
But she hadn't expected that this guy Ethan had actually arrived even earlier than her!
Talented and diligent.
What a formidable opponent.
Hermione cast a deep, wary, yet respectful glance at Ethan.
Then, she sat down on the Gryffindor side, slammed her book onto the desk with a thud, and began to study.
Hiss—why does this girl look at me like she wants to eat me alive?
Ethan scratched his head in confusion, not giving it much thought.
Good grief, I don't understand the world of overachievers.
The third person to arrive was Professor Flitwick.
Seeing that there were students who had arrived even earlier than him, Professor Flitwick was stunned, then broke into a happy smile.
"Because of your diligence, two points to Gryffindor and two points to Ravenclaw."
Hermione's eyes lit up immediately. Just as she was about to say "Thank you, Professor," she heard Ethan speak up.
"No matter how diligent we young people are, we still rely on your guidance, Professor, so that we don't get lost in the ocean of knowledge."
As he spoke, Ethan wore a look of utter righteousness.
Hermione whipped her head around, staring at him in disbelief.
Is this really the same Ethan who usually speaks like he's from the Netherworld?!
Ethan, you make me feel like a stranger.
Professor Flitwick was also stunned. He hadn't heard such words often, and his face turned red.
Oh, look at this child, why does he always blurt out such honest truths?
"Ahem, Ethan, as long as you maintain this thirst for knowledge and don't stray from the path, you will certainly reach your goals."
Professor Flitwick encouraged him, stuttering slightly.
He quickly changed the subject.
"So—do you have any other questions? There is still some time before class starts, and I can answer them for you."
Hearing this, Hermione's eyes lit up again.
It wasn't just one question; she had a whole pile of questions she wanted to ask!
But this time, she didn't speak up immediately, instead looking toward Ethan first.
Sure enough, Ethan looked like he had a question to ask as well.
Hermione's attention was highly focused, and even Professor Flitwick couldn't help but feel nervous, wondering what kind of profound question Ethan was about to ask.
Ethan: "Professor, I want to make money."
Hermione: "...?"
What, what on earth???
For a moment, Hermione thought Ethan was speaking in some profound code.
Something that a Muggle-born young wizard like her didn't understand.
However, when she saw Professor Flitwick looking equally bewildered, Hermione realized it wasn't her problem.
"Ma, make money?"
Professor Flitwick seemed to be encountering such a down-to-earth question for the first time; he froze for two or three seconds before reacting.
"Oh, you mean you want to find a part-time job at school, right?"
His gaze involuntarily swept over Ethan's tattered school uniform.
Ethan nodded.
"That's easy to handle. Hogwarts has specific tasks posted for students—running errands for professors, doing chores, collecting materials, and the like."
"These tasks are posted on the notice board in the Great Hall every Monday morning. Since school just started today, they might not be up yet."
"If you check again at noon, they should be there."
Ethan nodded: "Alright, I understand. Thank you, Professor."
He knew it.
How could Hogwarts not have a "work-study" program!
Helping professors with odd jobs to earn pocket money while learning knowledge at the same time.
This must be a method Hogwarts came up with to encourage the young wizards to study.
The three of them discussed the casting of Charms for a while longer.
Ethan was more interested in the three-dimensional models of magic; those were the fundamental principles of spells.
And having received an education in his past life, he was able to better understand those complex 3D models.
Not long after, the Gryffindor students finally rushed into the classroom just in time.
"Alright, children," Professor Flitwick said, "before we officially begin the lesson, let's take attendance."
When he called Harry's name, Professor Flitwick let out a squeal like a star-struck schoolgirl and tumbled off the stack of books he was standing on.
"Wingardium Leviosa."
Ethan flicked his wand, catching Professor Flitwick's robes and pulling him back up from mid-air.
"A perfect Levitation Charm! Two points to Ravenclaw!"
Professor Flitwick said excitedly, his eyes filled with admiration as he looked at Ethan.
This was a student from his own house! A rising star of Ravenclaw!
Professor Flitwick felt an immense sense of pride.
On the other side, Hermione gripped her wand tightly, unwilling to accept defeat.
During the rest of the lesson, the young girl answered questions with all her might, leaving even Professor Flitwick a bit bewildered.
"Look at her!" Ron whispered to Harry, complaining. "Look at Ethan, he's so low-key and humble. I bet he knows everything the professor is teaching too!"
Harry looked at Ron, whose eyes were sparkling, and chuckled softly, "Since when did you become such a fanboy of Ethan?"
"I am not—!" Ron reflexively retorted, then muttered, "It, it's just human nature..."
"Hahaha."
Compared to the joking and banter on the Gryffindor side.
The atmosphere over at Ravenclaw was much more serious.
To put it bluntly, every child who entered Ravenclaw believed they were smarter than everyone else.
However, looking at Ethan sitting in the front row, his back appearing as if he were aloof from the world.
They felt a deep sense of urgency.
Look!
Someone is better than you, and yet they work harder than you.
How could you possibly have the nerve to slack off!
And so.
A silent competition of overachievers began to spread among the little eagles.
Grind!
Everyone, just grind!!
On the podium, Professor Flitwick looked at those incredibly focused faces and couldn't help but be deeply moved.
He had a premonition.
This year would be the year Ravenclaw rose to prominence.
"Clang—clang—"
With the low, melodious tolling of the Hogwarts bell, the double period of Charms class came to an end.
For Ethan, the time had passed in the blink of an eye.
He looked at the notes scrawled like graffiti in his textbook, unable to help but marvel at the standard of teaching at Hogwarts.
It truly lived up to its reputation as the best magic school in Britain, explaining the obscure and difficult content in the textbooks with such thoroughness.
Although the first lesson had only provided a general introduction to the evolution of charms and the logic behind spellcasting, Ethan still benefited immensely.
He toyed with his wand, feeling the mysterious flow of magic within his body, the tip flickering with sparks of brilliant light from time to time.
Perhaps he wasn't the top student when it came to grades.
But in terms of actual combat, Ethan was confident that among his peers, he was unrivaled.
