Although in theory, making several strands of mental power not conflict should be easy for Lu Yifang, who could control vectors, it was easier said than done. In fact, he still spent over an hour on it.
Again, this was the brain. Lu Yifang was truly afraid that if he used too much force, this old bald head in his hands might suddenly explode. If that happened, Cyclops would definitely not hesitate to blast him with a laser.
And the "patient's family" waiting outside would surely "keep their emotions steady" as they picked up their weapons and instantly turned into axe-wielding executioners.
When Lu Yifang finally lowered his hands, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Professor!" Seeing Lu Yifang stop his movements and step back, Cyclops rushed over immediately.
Just then, Professor X's eyelids twitched, and he slowly opened his eyes.
"Professor, you're finally awake." Seeing Professor X wake up, Cyclops's voice instantly choked up, and tears streamed down his face.
"I'm much better now." Professor X grabbed Cyclops's hand and comforted him. He was both gratified and somewhat disappointed by Cyclops's emotional outburst.
Cyclops was the successor he had personally trained, but he was too easily swayed by emotion. For an excellent leader, that was clearly unqualified. It seemed it wasn't yet time for him to stand on his own.
"You did well." Professor X then turned his gaze to Lu Yifang.
Although he had seemed like he'd "lost his mind" earlier, that didn't mean Professor X couldn't perceive the outside world. His mental power was too strong. Lu Yifang even suspected that Professor X could maintain his existence even if he lost his body.
Because of the conflict of mental power in his brain, Professor X had temporarily lost control of his body, but he had seen everything that happened. That was why he felt somewhat disappointed by the passive performance of Cyclops and the other two after he fell unconscious.
Lu Yifang's performance, on the other hand, surprised him. It also gave him a deeper sense of the power of Lu Yifang's abilities. This kid needed to be properly nurtured.
Seeing the look in Professor X's eyes, Lu Yifang smiled sheepishly. "Does this mean I can get a scholarship increase?"
"Uh... I'll consider revising the school rules to raise the scholarship amount." Professor X's mouth twitched before he finally said this.
But in his heart, he was deeply frustrated. Such a good kid, why did he always seem like he had money on the brain? Could it be that he had been poor and scared in the past? Thinking this, Professor X's gaze softened. After all, he was a child with a hard life.
"Professor, you're awake. That's wonderful." The door opened, and Storm walked in with a look of surprise. Behind her followed Logan.
"Where's Jean?" Cyclops suddenly asked. Since the professor was awake, how could she not come to see him?
"I don't know. I haven't seen her for a while." Storm also realized this.
"That child is in the Cerebro room." Professor X blinked and said. Even without the amplifier, his mental power could easily cover the entire school.
"What is she doing there? Could it be... damn it!" Cyclops seemed to think of something and abruptly stood up.
At that moment, Professor X let out a muffled groan and clutched his head in pain.
"Professor, it's best if you don't use your mental power lightly right now." Lu Yifang reminded him. He could already see that when the professor released his mental power, the energy in his brain showed signs of stirring again.
"I'm going to stop her from using Cerebro. With her power, using that machine will hurt her." Cyclops had already rushed out of the room, with Logan close behind.
"It's already too late." Lu Yifang muttered to himself. Just now, he had felt a restless surge of mental power sweep past him and spread out beyond the school.
"Yifang, help me up." Professor X had naturally sensed it too and reached out his hand to Lu Yifang.
"Professor, your wheelchair." Storm pushed Professor X's wheelchair over.
When Lu Yifang pushed the wheelchair into the Cerebro room, Jean was already lying on the ground in pain, with Cyclops and Logan, two big men, standing around her, one in front and one behind.
"Child, are you alright?" Professor X came up to Jean.
As he reached out his hand, he suddenly saw a flash of red light in Jean's eyes. Professor X's expression immediately stiffened.
Lu Yifang sensed a powerful energy surge within Jean's body, but before he could confirm it, the power flashed and vanished, as if it had never existed.
"Professor, I'm fine. I'm so glad you woke up." Jean said, holding her head.
"I've found their location. Magneto has taken Rogue to Liberty Island. He's already started implementing his plan."
"Professor, are you listening?" Seeing the professor seem distracted, Jean called out again.
"Mm, I understand." Called back by Jean, the professor snapped out of it. He gave Jean a deep look before turning his gaze to the others.
"Now it's time for us to act."
Ten minutes later, everyone was gathered around a table in the main hall. The high-tech table was rapidly constructing a 3D image.
As the leader of the X-Men, Cyclops manipulated the instruments on the table and addressed the group.
"Let's organize the intelligence we've gathered. Magneto used his ability to invent a device. When exposed to this device's radiation, ordinary people can be transformed into Mutants. To retaliate against Senator Kelly and his supporters' Mutant Registration Act, he plans to use this device on Liberty Island.
Because the device may have some flaws—the user could die from excessive energy consumption—Magneto intends to use Rogue's ability. He'll have Rogue absorb his power, gain his ability, and then let Rogue die in his place."
"Why choose Liberty Island?" Logan asked curiously.
"Because across from Liberty Island is Manhattan Island. I don't know if you've seen the news, but world leaders are holding a summit there. Magneto's target is clearly these people." Jean pulled up images of Manhattan Island and various buildings in New York.
"Of course, the impact won't be limited to Manhattan Island. All of New York will be within range. If we don't stop him in time, the consequences will be unimaginable."
"I don't think that outcome is entirely unacceptable." Lu Yifang interjected, drawing everyone's attention.
"We're Mutants. If there's a device that can turn everyone in the world into Mutants, isn't that a good thing for us?" Lu Yifang said, forcing himself to continue.
"Child, that's true in theory." Professor X patted Lu Yifang's arm.
"But this device my old friend invented has a huge flaw. Although it can turn ordinary people into Mutants, they will die soon after. If Magneto forcefully uses this device, it will ultimately kill everyone in New York."
"I see." Lu Yifang patted his head. Although he had watched the X-Men movies, it had been eighteen years since his previous life, and many plot details were a bit fuzzy. Fortunately, he remembered the later plot fairly clearly. Next should be a big battle on Liberty Island, and then they could wrap things up.
"I'll join too." Ms. Emma and Katie were at the Howard Orphanage in the city. Even if just for them, Lu Yifang had to go.
"Kid, I think it's about time for lights out." Logan said to Lu Yifang, reaching out to grab his shoulder. But just as he was about to touch him, as if recalling his previous experience, Logan silently pulled his hand back.
"Lu Yifang, you're still just a student. Leave these matters to the teachers—we'll handle it," Cyclops said at that moment.
"Don't take this the wrong way," Lu Yifang said, glancing at everyone.
"With the Professor in his current state, he definitely can't act anymore. Facing Magneto, are you all really up to it?"
Lu Yifang's words instantly silenced them. Magneto was a veteran Level 4 Mutant on par with Professor X, and his men were no pushovers—how could they not feel uncertain inside?
"Does this kid always talk like such a pain in the ass?" Logan pointed at Lu Yifang.
Storm shrugged helplessly at the remark. "Now and then."
