"What are you laughing at?" Tian Nina asked.
"I'm laughing because you're laughing at me," Lin Qiye shot back with a witty remark.
"Didn't expect me to play computer games, huh? Actually, my dad said I have a boyish personality. He originally wanted me to go to the Art Department, but unfortunately, I'm clumsy, so I could only go to the Chinese Department to learn writing."
"Is that so? Got any masterpieces for me to enjoy?"
"I do. I'm trying to write a novel. The plot goes something like this: In ancient Tang Dynasty, a Western Region dancer and a Tang scholar have a mixed-race daughter. She accidentally picks up a time-traveling phone and from then on, she's unstoppable."
Hearing Tian Nina say this, Lin Qiye felt a bit guilty. He himself was a time traveler, and he had an Intelligent AI as his cheat.
He quickly changed the subject: "That premise is too cliché. Isn't the internet full of that stuff? Switch to something original and big-budget, maybe it could even be turned into a game."
"Exactly!" Tian Nina's eyes lit up. "My dream is to write a game script and turn it into a triple-A masterpiece."
The Intelligent AI had mentioned it could make games. Using it to pick up girls seemed a bit too extravagant.
Whatever. Why bother with so many restraints when reborn? Lin Qiye leaned in. "If I help you turn that script into a game, how are you going to repay me?"
This time, Tian Nina didn't blush. Instead, she leaned closer.
The two were less than ten centimeters apart, their breaths mingling. Lin Qiye could even smell a faint fragrance.
"My mom said a man's promise is worth less than dog shit. My dad said a man's promise only counts for the one he loves. I don't believe either. I choose to experience it myself and see if you're a good man or a scumbag."
That was direct. Lin Qiye felt a bit uncomfortable and wanted to pull back, but he had to uphold his manly pride.
"Alright then. Let's not talk about the distant future. My parents are coming to Kun City for National Day, and they insist on meeting my girlfriend. What do you suggest?"
"Are you saying you want me to be your girlfriend?" Tian Nina suddenly panicked, quickly backing away, her hands fidgeting as she didn't know where to put them.
"Don't misunderstand. Just pretend. Because you talked to my mom last time, she thinks you're my girlfriend. This time she's coming and insists on seeing you. You don't know how stubborn my mom is. Once she's set on something, no amount of explaining works. I have to ask for your help." Lin Qiye explained, feigning ignorance.
Hearing this, a trace of disappointment flickered across Tian Nina's face, but it quickly turned into cheerfulness. "So Auntie likes girls like me? I can think about it."
"No problem, take your time. There's still a week until National Day."
Tian Nina nodded, glanced at her watch, and stood up. "I'm heading back to the dorm. It's dangerous for a girl to walk alone at night. You're not going to not walk me, are you?"
Fallen Street was only a few hundred meters from the campus. At night, it was packed with students. How could it be dangerous?
It was clearly an excuse from Tian Nina. Lin Qiye sighed helplessly, stood up, slung his laptop bag over his shoulder, and the two walked out of the Internet Cafe.
Along the way, perhaps because of the fake girlfriend situation, they suddenly didn't know how to keep the conversation going.
For a moment, they walked in silence until they reached the outside of the Chinese Department female dormitory building.
"I agree." Tian Nina said, then ran toward the dormitory entrance without looking back.
"Agree to what?" Lin Qiye teased, knowing full well.
To be honest, living a second life, the biggest difference was that he was no longer that shy, naive youth. These words and actions would have been absolutely impossible for his former self.
Naturally, there was no answer. Lin Qiye watched her figure disappear, then turned and headed toward his own dorm.
Now the night was deep, but the male dormitory was brightly lit, with shirtless guys everywhere.
Some lay in bed chatting, listening to music, or reading. Others were gaming on computers or sitting around playing cards to relax.
A few were singing loudly in the bathroom.
As he walked through the hallway, someone greeted Lin Qiye. "Big Lin, why are you still coming back to the dorm?" "You're a boss now, don't be so frugal. Set an example of luxury for us youth."
"Can't afford luxury. Just want to make a little money. If you brothers buy a few more drinks when you're at the Internet Cafe, that's taking care of my business."
After dealing with the students outside, he pushed open the door and entered the dorm.
The dorm had eight beds, but only six students lived there. One was empty, and another belonged to Jiang Yeming. That guy went home to get married in his freshman year. It wasn't until much later that Lin Qiye found out he'd married because of a pregnancy, settling down early.
Of the remaining six residents, besides Lin Qiye, there were Jiang Dabao and Li Nanguang.
There was also the dorm leader, Lou Xingyu, who always wore a stern face, giving off an impression of deep cunning. In the future, he would walk the path of officialdom, and classmates jokingly called him "Bureau Chief."
Then there was the fatty, Bai Qifan. Though he seemed like a total homebody now, after graduation he traveled far and wide, doing nothing but sales work, becoming a real smooth operator. Unfortunately, later on, he developed diabetes complicated by kidney disease and could only rely on dialysis to survive. Up until the day Lin Qiye crossed over, he'd still called—no kidney donor in sight.
And then there was the invisible man, Fang Xinghua, always holding a book and reading. He had the best grades in the dorm. Later, he went north to pursue a PhD, and no one knew what happened to him after that. He basically lost contact with all his college classmates.
Lin Qiye put down his laptop bag and was about to climb up to his bunk when Lou Xingyu spoke up.
"Big Lin, if I go to your Internet Cafe tomorrow to top up, is there still a discount?"
"Sure. Just say you're from our class. I'll give them a list over there. No problem."
"Oh, thanks then." Lou Xingyu paused. "Big Lin, you should change your phone too."
Bai Qifan chimed in: "Yeah, you're a boss now. Using some no-name phone hurts your image."
Lin Qiye smiled. "You're right. It's time to change my phone."
He lay down on the bed, pulled out his laptop, and typed.
"What are the most popular phones this year?"
[Samsung Galaxy S3, Nokia Lumia 920, Meizu MX2, iPhone 5, Xiaomi 2.]
Lin Qiye remembered.
When the Xiaomi 2 came out, it was incredibly popular. Back then, I wanted to buy one but could never manage to snag one.
Maybe I should buy one now to make up for that regret.
But then I thought again—future phones are powerful, and some high-end models are no worse than computers. If I could get my hands on one of those, I could let the Intelligent AI switch to a mobile terminal, and I wouldn't have to lug a computer bag around every day.
"Can any of these phones house your Sub-entity?"
[Absolutely impossible. They don't meet the requirements in terms of performance, capacity, or any other aspect.]
"Then what can be done to make your mobile Sub-entity more portable? Carrying a computer bag around all day is still inconvenient."
[With current technology, there's no solution for now, but I can develop more external auxiliary functions.]
[For example, a full set of miniature spy tools could greatly enhance my external functionality.]
[There's a studio on the Dark Web that specializes in this kind of work and is currently up for sale as a whole. I suggest the administrator earn money quickly and acquire it.]
