Background

Chi Yi is a Fire Phoenix of the Primordial Divine Hall who was once considered the Hall Master's favored divine beast. He claims to have followed Ye Chang'an through countless campaigns and to possess the noblest Fire Phoenix bloodline; he was born above the Dao Master Realm. His claims are frequently accompanied by extravagant boasting, though his status as a genuine Fire Phoenix is confirmed by the awe he inspires in others. 243

Before joining Ye Chang'an, Chi Yi's entire clan was sealed by Ye Wu after a Fire Phoenix caused trouble in the lower realm. The seal limited Chi Yi's cultivation in the Vast Universe Domain, although he initially did not know its creator. After Ye Chang'an had Ye Wu remove it, Chi Yi enthusiastically proposed retaliating against the unknown culprit—only to realize that Ye Wu himself had placed the seal. Ye Wu then gave him a harsh “friendly exchange.” 249 250

Ye Chang'an keeps Chi Yi at his side because he finds the phoenix's showmanship entertaining, assigning him the role of mount. Chi Yi willingly carries him through the universe and deliberately makes conspicuous appearances rather than travelling discreetly. 243 246 294

Appearance

Chi Yi can take the form of either a blazing Fire Phoenix or a red-haired young man. 243 244

  • Fire Phoenix form — A majestic divine bird covered in flames; he can control his fire so that it does not harm Ye Chang'an while serving as a mount. 246
  • Human form — A young man in a fiery red robe with deep-red hair, an arrogant expression, and a roguish charm. 244
  • Presence — His aura is often unreadable to other cultivators and can create overwhelming pressure. 292 297

Personality

Chi Yi is vain, theatrical, and intensely proud of his bloodline, Talent, appearance, and strength. He routinely calls opponents weak, dismisses major factions as insignificant, and treats intimidation as an opportunity to perform. 243 285 342

His arrogance is balanced by genuine loyalty to Ye Chang'an. He addresses the Hall Master respectfully, eagerly accepts assignments, seeks his approval after acting, and is willing to perform even trivial duties such as preparing food. 243 405 458

Chi Yi is also easily intimidated by those he recognizes as stronger than himself. He fears Ye Wu after learning who sealed him and reacts with obvious panic around Qin Qi, whom he calls the “little devil.” 250 297

His long-standing, one-sided affection for the Ice Phoenix Bing Yue became his Life Tribulation. Once Bing Yue plainly rejected him, Chi Yi let go of his fixation, broke the tribulation, and underwent Nirvana Rebirth. 398 399

Abilities & Skills

Chi Yi possesses a noble Fire Phoenix bloodline and can freely shift between human and phoenix forms. His true form is regarded as a legendary supreme existence by cultivators of the Vast Universe Domain. 243 293

Nirvana Rebirth and Calamity Pass

After overcoming his Life Tribulation connected to Bing Yue, Chi Yi underwent Nirvana Rebirth and substantially improved his Talent. 399

  • Ye Chang'an's Innate Divine Saint — Initially doubted Chi Yi was a real Fire Phoenix, then apologized after witnessing his reaction and learning his identity. 243

The Seal Incident

While watching Zhao Tianqiong's Cosmic Dao Stele performance, Chi Yi reveals that his strength is sealed.
