Background / History

Jiraiya is a celebrated Konoha shinobi and a member of the Sannin. He is a disciple of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, and reflects nostalgically on the former harmony of the Sannin team. He is reluctant to compare Hiruzen with the previous Hokage, maintaining that every Hokage was a hero who contributed greatly to the village. 56 64

His history as a teacher is marked by loss. When Hiruzen asks him to take Uchiha Youhu as a student, Jiraiya hesitates because all six of his previous disciples have died, including some who became prominent figures. He ultimately agrees, while remaining uncertain that he is qualified to guide a prodigy like Youhu. 66 81
