Background

The Uchiha are a prestigious founding clan of Konohagakure with a thousand-year heritage. They possess extensive land within the village and historically control the Security Force, which may arrest criminal villagers and ninja and detain them in the Guard Division prison. These privileges make many villagers regard the clan as a semi-independent settlement rather than an ordinary part of Konoha. 1

Following the Nine-Tails’ Rampage, Konoha’s leadership further restricted the clan by cutting Security Force funding and relocating the Uchiha District to the village’s edge. The isolation deepened the clan’s dissatisfaction and intensified debates over whether to integrate with Konoha, seize power, or preserve the status quo. 1

The clan’s internal crisis becomes increasingly severe as its members acquire Mangekyō Sharingan, Wood Style transplants, and competing political agendas. Tiehuo eventually succeeds Fugaku as clan head, while Youhu remains recognized by some members as the clan’s strongest ninja despite being denounced by others as a traitor aligned with the Hokage faction. 103 166

Organization and Political Factions

Faction Leader Position
Doves Uchiha Shisui Advocate integration into Konoha. 1
Hawks Uchiha Yachiyo Advocate an armed coup to seize power. 1
Moderates Uchiha Fugaku Seek to protect the clan’s standing without committing to a coup. 1
Uchiha Fan Faction Uchiha Tiehuo, under Youhu’s influence Originated as the “Abstract Faction”; uses alleged Uchiha history and Izuna’s inheritance to recruit members. Its ideology shifts from resisting the Hokage faction to demanding that Konoha “integrate into the Uchiha.” 38 67

Uchiha Fan Faction

Tiehuo builds support by presenting Youhu’s Mangekyō Sharingan as proof that the clan has gained a protector capable of opposing the Hokage faction. The faction adopts the Uchiha fan as its emblem and recruits Sharingan users through a parchment attributed to Uchiha Izuna. 6 38

Its teachings include fabricated accusations against the Hokage lineage, including claims concerning Madara, Izuna, Tobirama, Kagami, Hiruzen, and Danzō. The faction’s rhetoric later escalates beyond gaining the Hokage position: Tiehuo and the figure known as “Izuna” discuss dissolving Konoha and restoring the Land of Fire to the Warring States Period. 38 103

Abilities and Heritage

Sharingan

The Sharingan is the clan’s defining kekkei genkai and the foundation of its battlefield reputation.

  • Enables heightened observation, copying, and hypnotic genjutsu. 3
  • Uchiha-on-Uchiha combat reduces many of its normal advantages, since both sides can read and counter Sharingan-based actions. 3
  • The clan considers the Mangekyō Sharingan an exceptional symbol of authority and power; Youhu’s reveal of his Mangekyō immediately earns the submission of Tiehuo’s followers. 6
  • Excessive Mangekyō use is associated with ocular-power expenditure and eventual blindness unless offset by exceptional circumstances, such as Hashirama cells. 38 71 107

Mangekyō Sharingan Techniques

The clan preserves forbidden ocular techniques such as Izanagi and Izanami.

  • Izanagi can nullify fatal injuries at the cost of permanently blinding a Three-Tomoe Sharingan. 102
  • Izanami is recognized as an Uchiha forbidden technique and can undermine even Mangekyō-based opponents who have previously experienced it. 4 104
  • Multiple clan members are reported or confirmed to possess Mangekyō Sharingan, including Youhu, Itachi, Shisui, and Hikari. 103 166 170

Wood Style Transplantation

Through research attributed to “Izuna’s Inheritance,” Tiehuo’s faction develops a method of transplanting Wood Style cells into Uchiha members. 37 39

  • The Sharingan can suppress unstable Wood Style cells. 74
  • Tiehuo survives his transplant by embedding several Three-Tomoe Sharingan in his right arm; without them, the Wood Style cells would have consumed him. 74
  • A successful transplant combined with Three-Tomoe Sharingan can raise an Uchiha’s combat ability to elite-jōnin level. 74
  • The prospect of producing many Sharingan-and-Wood-Style users alarms Konoha’s leadership, who believe it could shift the balance of power toward the clan. 102 171

Sites and Relics

  • Uchiha District — The clan’s settlement in Konoha. It is relocated to the village outskirts after the Nine-Tails’ Rampage. 1
  • Naka Shrine — A site for clan rites and meetings; later serves as the Uchiha Fan Faction’s gathering place. 6 38
  • Uchiha Stone Tablet — An ancestral tablet beneath Naka Shrine. Its concealed text is visible to Mangekyō Sharingan users and records the clan’s history, the origin of chakra, and the Infinite Tsukuyomi. 75 163
  • Uchiha Gunbai — A symbol of clan-head authority, held by Obito during the events surrounding Madara’s former base. 48
  • “Izuna’s Inheritance” parchments — Documents presented as Izuna’s research on Sharingan advancement, Wood Style, chakra reincarnation, and other secrets. They become central to Tiehuo’s recruitment campaign. 7 8 38 107
  • Uchiha Ultimate Weapon — A completed inheritance map identifies a sealed “strongest weapon” of the clan. The search leads to a Senju ruin, where Uchiha Hikari is found sealed. 107 151 152

Story Role / Major Arcs

Marginalization and Clan Conflict

The Uchiha begin as a politically isolated but privileged Konoha clan divided between integrationists, coup supporters, and moderates. Youhu exploits the division by presenting provocative intermarriage proposals and spreading rumors about the Hokage faction. 1 5 8

Rise of the Uchiha Fan Faction

Youhu’s Mangekyō Sharingan and the alleged Izuna inheritance give Tiehuo a basis to recruit clan members. The movement expands at Naka Shrine, distributes Sharingan-related knowledge, and begins Wood Style experimentation. 6 38 39 74

Tiehuo’s Ascension

After Danzō’s actions against Uchiha members become public, Tiehuo uses the crisis to pressure the Third Hokage and strengthen his own position. Fugaku steps down, and Tiehuo becomes clan head. 103 166

The “Izuna” Conspiracy

Itachi learns that the faction surrounding Tiehuo is not merely pursuing Uchiha representation in Konoha. Its hidden objective is to dissolve Konoha and return the Land of Fire to the clan warfare of the Warring States Period. 103 104

Resistance to the Infinite Tsukuyomi

Youhu reveals the stone tablet’s account of chakra, the Senju-Uchiha shared ancestry, and the Infinite Tsukuyomi to Fugaku and Hikari. Both ultimately join his side in opposition to the Sage of Six Paths and Akatsuki. 163

Trivia

  • The Uchiha fan is both the clan emblem and the symbol adopted by the Uchiha Fan Faction. 38
  • Naka Shrine is historically associated with Uchiha discussions about attaining the Hokage position. 166
  • Tobirama considers the combination of Sharingan, Wood Style, and restraint in Youhu evidence that he may be a mixed Senju-Uchiha descendant rather than a conventional Uchiha. 167 169
