Background

Hashirama and Madara Uchiha were close friends before their identities as Senju and Uchiha were exposed. Their friendship collapsed under the clans' longstanding hostility, and both rose to lead their respective sides during the Warring States Period. Hashirama's newly awakened Wood Style repeatedly suppressed Madara, while Tobirama's anti-Uchiha techniques reinforced the Senju advantage. 389

After defeating Madara in their final battle, Hashirama stopped Tobirama from killing him. He sought to end the Senju–Uchiha conflict and preserve their shared ideal: a world where children would not be sent to war. This decision eventually led to the Senju and Uchiha alliance that founded Leaf Village. 389 657

Orochimaru later revived Hashirama and Tobirama through Impure World Reincarnation after learning that Madara remained alive.
