Ch. 61Dream Weaver
Plot points and events
- Ling Chu finds Hua Fei Hua hiding in the cabin after the Illusion Realm collapses. Hua has almost no Mana left and begs for her life, offering the ship’s supplies.
- Hua explains that her group planned to distract Ling Chu with an illusion while Wu Fei Wu and the brothers stole from her ship. Their usual tactic—Hua’s illusions, Wu’s assassinations, and the brothers’ support—had succeeded against other players, but not Ling Chu.
- Ling Chu refuses to spare Hua and kills her with a frost-covered dagger. She gains Justice Points, bounty Sea Shells, and a third Soul Orb.
- Titch and the Skeleton Henchmen search both ships and find no survivors. Ling Chu waits out the remaining seven minutes of the title’s lock-on timer and inventories the loot.
- The spoils include weapons, Hua’s Mana Staff of Rapid Casting, Wu’s memory-obscuring Hermit’s Hood and legendary Ninja’s Belt, five shuriken, and modest supplies—especially food and freshwater.
- Ling Chu notices an incongruous Buddhist shrine in a cabin, still burning incense.
Character developments and interactions
- Ling Chu remains pragmatic and unsentimental: she judges people as allies or enemies rather than showing mercy based on gender. She also carefully evaluates and plans how to use the recovered equipment and Soul Orbs.
- Hua Fei Hua is revealed as a Dream Weaver whose powerful illusions made her group dangerous despite her lack of combat ability. She had once feared being a burden, but her special profession made her an essential part of the team. Now defeated, she pleads desperately before Ling Chu kills her.
- Wu Fei Wu is portrayed as the group’s assassin and a capable fighter, equipped with tools suited to stealth. Her hood’s effect explains why Ling Chu cannot recall her face.
- Huang Xiaowen accompanies Ling Chu as they enter the cabin and later receives the shuriken, which Ling Chu believes she can use.
Significant themes
- Trust and betrayal: The group pretended to negotiate while secretly planning theft and murder.
- Power and survival: Specialized abilities and teamwork can make a group formidable, but a failed strategy leaves its members vulnerable.
- Mercy versus pragmatism: Ling Chu refuses Hua’s emotional appeal, prioritizing survival and allegiance over sympathy.
- The value of preparation and resources: Ling Chu’s careful searches and inventory turn victory into practical gains, while the shrine’s presence hints at an unexplained mystery.
