"Good!"
Ge Long gave a fierce shout, his voice splitting the air.
"You've got guts, kid!"
He hadn't died. Instead, he threw back his head and laughed.
"I, Ge Long, want men like you under my command! You're not afraid of death, and you're worth using!"
He walked up to Mu Rong and gave him a heavy slap on the shoulder with his broad palm.
"I'm taking back my order to have you executed. I'll make you a soldier. You've certainly brought me down a peg."
Ge Long's face was full of undisguised approval.
"I'll give you a promise."
He raised a finger.
"As long as you survive the battlefield and make it through the war, I'll raise your soul power by thirty ranks and make you a Soul Saint."
"I, Ge Long, will promote you to the position of Battlefield Commander and give you command over a hundred men!"
The whole room stirred.
"Commander!"
The title rang out, making Mu Rong's ears buzz.
Within the hierarchy of the Star Luo Empire, a commander was technically only a grassroots officer, yet held an extraordinary amount of authority.
A hundred men under his command—even the squad leaders of the ten-man teams might be included among them.
This was no longer an ordinary promotion. It was practically a rocket ride to the top.
A regular soldier might fight for his whole life and still never reach the position of commander.
And yet Ge Long had promoted Mu Rong, who'd been sentenced to death by the Demon Blade, to the rank of commander in the space of a month.
This was simply too outrageous.
"How... How did he manage that?"
Ge Long watched Mu Rong's stunned expression and grinned.
"I, Ge Long, always keep my word! Besides, you're capable of doing the job!"
