Sand Monk rode the clouds for three days and three nights before reaching Water Curtain Cave on Flower-Fruit Mountain.
When he entered the cave, he saw Sun Wukong sitting on a high platform, loudly reading from a scripture. Sand Monk's eyes grew hot at the sight. He demanded, "Why did you do that?"
Hearing the voice, Sun Wukong raised his head and saw a bearded man staring at him. Feeling rather annoyed, he ordered the little monkeys to seize the man and bring him over.
When the man was brought before him, Sun Wukong asked, "Who are you? Why have I never seen you before?"
Sand Monk said, "Eldest Brother, please come back with me. Master can't do without you. Let's go to the West together to obtain the scriptures. If you really don't want to come back with me, then at least give me the bundle. It contains Master's precious scriptures, and we can't afford to lose them."
But Sun Wukong said, "I can go to the West to obtain the scriptures all by myself. What do I need Tang Sanzang for?"
Sand Monk was shocked. "Eldest Brother, you mustn't! Without Master, how would Buddha give the scriptures to anyone else?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he saw Sun Wukong conjure up Tang Sanzang and the others.
How could Sand Monk stand by while someone impersonated his master? He raised the Devil-Subduing Staff in his hand and struck at the fake Tang Sanzang. The group couldn't dodge in time. They fell to the ground dead, turning into three or four monkey hairs. They had been monkeys in disguise all along.
