The Meridian Opening Realm succeeds the Body Tempering Realm in the Martial Dao hierarchy. It is regarded as a decisive divide: a Body Tempering practitioner ordinarily has little chance against a Meridian Opening Martial Artist because internal energy can directly injure the body from range 5 60.

The realm is divided into early, mid, late, peak late, and Great Perfection stages. Strength may differ drastically between practitioners of the same realm; Black Wind Stockade’s Meridian Opening leaders were swiftly defeated by Xiao Yingkai and An Yanbing despite sharing their realm 23.

Realm Characteristics

Extraordinary Meridians

Cultivation centers on opening the body’s twelve extraordinary meridians. Once opened, these meridians become visible on the body as luminous lines and enable qi and blood to circulate in a manner that produces internal energy 95.

Internal Energy

Internal energy is the realm’s defining power. Unlike the vital energy of the Body Tempering Realm, it can erupt beyond the body and inflict damage at range 67 95.

• It can pierce through a Body Tempering Martial Artist’s vital energy and damage internal organs 60 67.
• Ordinary Meridian Opening practitioners can generally project internal energy about one foot from their bodies 96.
• Internal energy may be attached to weapons, greatly increasing their lethality 70.
• Its power remains inferior to the True Strength wielded by Tendon Changing Realm experts 71 94.

Physical Enhancement

Breaking through grants a major increase in physical strength, toughness, defense, and speed 95 96 126.

• A practitioner’s body becomes substantially more resilient than it was in the Body Tempering Realm 95.
• High-level Meridian Opening Martial Artists can hold positions of authority; Qingshan Town’s mayor, Yuan Chengshan, is a late-stage practitioner 64.
• Great Perfection practitioners are already preparing to enter the Tendon Changing Realm and can possess traces of True Strength 114.
