"I believe you've all met me, since I was here just a few days ago and had a cordial, friendly conversation with you."
"And today is the first time I've sat here as Chairman."
On a new Monday, Chen Chen sat at the head of the table in the Preston Company conference room, with the company's employees on either side of him.
For some reason, a solemn atmosphere was slowly spreading through the conference room.
"Oh, right. I forgot to tell you: our company has a new name—Blackwatch, meaning 'black light.'"
Chen Chen continued, "At the same time, we also have a Headquarters Company in the distant East. In the future, you'll probably receive more of your instructions from Headquarters Company."
He checked the time, then looked up. "All right, enough small talk. I'll now announce some personnel changes."
As Chen Chen spoke, the atmosphere in the conference room grew even more tense. Everyone pricked up their ears. Even Qian Wenhuan, who had thought his position was secure, couldn't help feeling his heart race.
When a new ruler took power, he brought in his own people. Everyone's future and fate now rested on the whim of the young man before them.
"Mr. Wenn."
First, Chen Chen turned to the older man beside him. "Although you're no longer a shareholder, your ability to manage the company is clear to everyone. Would you be interested in continuing as the company's General Manager?"
"If you don't mind having me," Mr. Wenn replied, surprised.
Wenn had been ready to resign. He had assumed today was just a formality and that his role would be to keep things running until the new General Manager took over.
But he hadn't expected the new boss to be so generous as to keep him on.
