Ch. 84Ninja Academy Reform

Namikawa Yū reviewed the profits from Konoha’s tobacco and casino monopolies and planned to expand the business across the Land of Fire with the Daimyo’s cooperation. He also proposed a new electricity enterprise and a revised Ninja Academy system, leaving Konoha’s leaders to implement the reforms.

  • Namikawa Yū said graduates who passed the Intermediate Ninja Academy examination would become Chunin, while Genin who failed could still take the public Chunin Ninja Exams; he cited protecting children and improving their preparation as the reasons.

Ch. 85A Grand Scheme

Namikawa Yū proposed an Intermediate Ninja Academy to give young ninjas more complete training and keep underprepared Genin off the battlefield. He secured broad clan support by inviting them to donate techniques and instructors, then outlined changes to the Junior Ninja Academy curriculum.

  • Namikawa Yū argued that young ninjas needed longer education and proposed teaching the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique at the Intermediate Ninja Academy.
  • Namikawa Yū offered Fire Style techniques from the Uchiha Clan, medical techniques of his own, and contributions and instructors from the Senju, Uzumaki, and Sarutobi Clans.

Ch. 89Tailed Beast Transformation

Namikawa Yū fought Kinkaku after Kinkaku unleashed a Tailed Beast Transformation, but his attacks could not penetrate the chakra cloak. As the battle grew more dangerous, Namikawa Yū released his Yin Seal.

  • Kinkaku tried to trap Namikawa Yū with the Amber Purifying Pot, but Namikawa Yū avoided answering and attacked him instead.
  • Kinkaku transformed with the Nine-Tails' chakra, healed his wounds, and fired Tailed Beast Balls at Namikawa Yū.
  • Namikawa Yū used Flying Thunder God and the Sharingan to evade and slow Kinkaku, but the wild chakra overcame the Sharingan's influence.
  • Kagami Uchiha wanted to help, but Mitakado Homura warned that joining the fight would only distract Namikawa Yū.
  • Namikawa Yū found that his blade could cut Kinkaku's cloak but could not damage him, then released his Yin Seal.

Ch. 90Settled

Namikawa Yū used the Yin Seal to replenish his chakra, defeated Kinkaku, and sealed and controlled him. He then watched the Third Raikage kill Ginkaku, but could not take the Six Paths Tools from him.

  • Namikawa Yū released his Yin Seal, briefly stunned Kinkaku with his Sharingan, and struck him with Wind Release: Interflow Break.

Ch. 91Negotiations and an invitation

Namikawa Yū negotiated with the Third Raikage over the Six Paths Tools and the bodies of Senju Tobirama and the Kinkaku Brothers, reaching an exchange that returned the Amber Purifying Pot to Kumogakure. After Konoha rejected a plan to seize it back, Yū learned that the Uzumaki Clan had refused his invitation to join Konoha.

  • The Third Raikage demanded Kinkaku's body and the Six Paths Tools in exchange for Senju Tobirama's body, while Konoha insisted on recovering its former Hokage.
  • Namikawa Yū warned that Kumogakure risked losing the Amber Purifying Pot's seal on a Tailed Beast, prompting the Third Raikage to resume negotiations.
  • Konoha and Kumogakure agreed that Konoha would return the Amber Purifying Pot and pay compensation, while Kumogakure would hand over Senju Tobirama's and Ginkaku's bodies.
  • Shimura Danzō urged Namikawa Yū to seize the Amber Purifying Pot, but Yū refused, citing the armistice and the risk of failure.
  • Namikawa Yū asked about the invitation to the Uzumaki Clan, and Mitokado Homura reported that the clan had refused to relocate to Konoha.

Ch. 92The Uzumaki Clan's Problem

Namikawa Yū warned Konoha’s leaders that the isolated Land of Whirlpools could be destroyed by Kumogakure before reinforcements arrived, and the Uzumaki Clan’s alliance with Konoha made protecting it strategically important. As the council struggled to find a way to defend the clan without violating its sovereignty, Shimura Danzō proposed wiping it out first and seizing its techniques and Kekkei Genkai.

  • Namikawa Yū explained that Konoha could not reach the Land of Whirlpools quickly enough to stop a surprise attack.
  • Namikawa Yū argued that Kumogakure might target the Uzumaki Clan for its Kekkei Genkai, Sealing Techniques, and potential Jinchūriki.
  • Kagami Uchiha questioned whether Kumogakure would attack so soon after signing an armistice, and Namikawa Yū said it could wait for an opportunity and destroy the country before Konoha reacted.
  • Mitokado Homura noted that reinforcements would take at least five days to reach the Land of Whirlpools, while the council rejected stationing Konoha troops there because it would violate the Uzumaki Clan’s sovereignty.
  • Shimura Danzō proposed that Konoha attack and wipe out its Uzumaki allies first, taking their techniques and Kekkei Genkai for itself.

Ch. 93The Daimyo's Threat? Laughable

Namikawa Yū rejected Danzo’s proposal to betray the Uzumaki Clan and ordered a base built near the Land of Whirlpools to protect it. He remained unconcerned when told the Land of Fire’s Daimyo might cut Konoha’s funding over its growing control of the country.

  • Danzo proposed that Konoha ambush and destroy its Uzumaki allies to seize their Sealing Techniques and bloodline, but Mitokado Homura and others objected.
  • Namikawa Yū ended the argument, rejected Danzo’s plan, and cited Uzumaki Mito as another reason not to attack the clan.
  • After Danzo left in anger, Namikawa Yū ordered a base built on the coast nearest the Land of Whirlpools and directed Konoha to secure the clan’s safety.
  • Namikawa Yū’s outposts across the Land of Fire had shifted from suppressing bandits to charging merchants protection fees, while Konoha planned to expand its military presence.
  • Mitokado Homura reported that the Daimyo was furious and threatened to withhold funding, but Namikawa Yū dismissed the threat because Konoha had money.

Ch. 94Experiment

Namikawa Yū rejected Kagami Uchiha’s plan to control the Daimyo with genjutsu and returned to Konoha, where he began studying the captured Kinkaku Brothers. In the laboratory, he discussed their unusual Tailed Beast powers with Uzumaki Mito and raised the possibility of using the First Hokage’s cells for experiments.

  • Kagami Uchiha offered to control the Daimyo with genjutsu, but Namikawa Yū rejected the risky plan and said Konoha should try persuading him first.
  • Namikawa Yū led the group back to Konoha, where new construction projects and a state-of-the-art laboratory had begun.
  • Namikawa Yū brought the captured Kinkaku and Ginkaku to the laboratory, where Uzumaki Mito examined them and sensed the Nine-Tails’ chakra in their bodies.
  • Namikawa Yū explained that the Kinkaku Brothers could transform into Tailed Beasts after consuming Tailed Beast flesh, and said their unusual bloodline might make their abilities impossible to reproduce in ordinary people.
  • Namikawa Yū told Uzumaki Mito that the First Hokage’s cells were also valuable experimental material.

Ch. 95The fusion of Hashirama Cells and Nine-Tails Chakra

Namikawa Yū obtained Uzumaki Mito’s permission to research Hashirama’s cells, then discovered they contained Divine Tree Power and could temporarily absorb Nine-Tails chakra. He concluded that permanent fusion required Tailed Beast flesh and turned his attention to the Nine-Tails sealed inside Mito.

  • Namikawa Yū asked Uzumaki Mito to use Hashirama’s cells for experiments, and she agreed on the condition that he never experiment on villagers.
  • Uzumaki Mito encouraged Namikawa Yū to visit Tsunade after he finished his work.
  • Namikawa Yū tested the Kinkaku Brothers’ cells and found that they retained remarkable vitality after death.
  • Namikawa Yū detected Divine Tree Power in Hashirama’s cells and linked it to Hashirama’s strength and Wood Release.
  • Namikawa Yū combined Hashirama’s cells with Nine-Tails chakra and watched the cells absorb it before returning to their original state.
  • Namikawa Yū concluded that Tailed Beast flesh was needed for a lasting fusion and left the laboratory to seek the Nine-Tails inside Uzumaki Mito.

Ch. 96A deal with the Nine-Tails

Namikawa Yū asked Uzumaki Mito to let him speak with the Nine-Tails so he could obtain its flesh and blood for his experiments. The Nine-Tails agreed to provide a sample in exchange for the chance to leave its cage in a clone, and afterward sensed that Namikawa Yū carried a presence like the Old Man of Six Paths.

  • Namikawa Yū told Uzumaki Mito that Hashirama Cells could accommodate Tailed Beast chakra and asked for the Nine-Tails' flesh and blood.
  • Uzumaki Mito explained that she could not extract the Nine-Tails' flesh and blood without undoing its seal, so Namikawa Yū asked to meet it instead.
  • Uzumaki Mito guided Namikawa Yū's consciousness into the Nine-Tails' sealed cage, where he introduced himself as Uchiha Tsugi.
  • Namikawa Yū offered to make the Nine-Tails a flesh-and-blood clone that could leave the cage while remaining under his watch.
  • The Nine-Tails accepted the deal and gave Namikawa Yū a piece of its flesh and blood.
  • After Namikawa Yū left, the Nine-Tails sensed a presence in him resembling the Old Man of Six Paths.

Ch. 97Little Nine-Tails Clone

Namikawa Yū used Nine-Tails’s flesh and compatible genes to cultivate a weak fox body that could serve as a vessel for transferred consciousness. After returning to Nine-Tails, he began the process of moving its consciousness into the clone.

  • Namikawa Yū explained to Uzumaki Mito how his technique used existing methods to transfer consciousness into a lasting vessel.
  • Namikawa Yū tested Nine-Tails’s blood against genes from creatures in the Ninja World and found fox summoning beasts to be the most compatible.
  • Namikawa Yū cultivated a weak young fox body using genes compatible with Nine-Tails’s cells.
  • Namikawa Yū returned to Nine-Tails and told it to close its eyes and not resist.
  • Namikawa Yū used the Spirit Transformation Technique on the sleeping Nine-Tails.

Ch. 98Juvenile Tailed Beast

Namikawa Yū used the Spirit Transformation Technique to place part of the Nine-Tails' consciousness into a weak juvenile fox body. The Nine-Tails agreed to stay with Namikawa Yū, while Uzumaki Mito remained behind.

  • Namikawa Yū pulled out part of the Nine-Tails' consciousness and sealed it inside a specially prepared fox body.
  • The Nine-Tails awoke in the weak body, complained to Namikawa Yū, and learned that it could grow stronger as it matured.
  • Namikawa Yū warned the Nine-Tails that intense emotions could damage its fragile body.
  • Namikawa Yū persuaded the Nine-Tails to stay by his side to avoid being captured by other ninjas.
  • Namikawa Yū thanked Uzumaki Mito and left the place, and Uzumaki Mito agreed to remain behind.

Ch. 99The young Sannin

After extracting the Nine-Tails' consciousness from Uzumaki Mito, Namikawa Yū visited Tsunade at the Ninja Academy and reassured her after his long absence. He planned to stay longer to spend time with her and oversee the Intermediate Ninja Academy as its first students neared graduation.

  • Namikawa Yū left Uzumaki Mito after removing the Nine-Tails' consciousness, easing the pressure she had felt as its jinchūriki.
  • Tsunade worried that Namikawa Yū had not visited her in a long time while she studied for her graduation exams.
  • Jiraiya teased Tsunade about her appearance, and she beat him before privately fretting that Namikawa Yū might not like her figure.
  • Namikawa Yū arrived, embraced Tsunade, and apologized for being too busy to see her.
  • Namikawa Yū agreed to spend more time with Tsunade and planned to inspect the Intermediate Ninja Academy and look for promising students.
  • Orochimaru admired Namikawa Yū and wished he could become his student.

Ch. 100Exchange

Namikawa Yū met Tsunade's friends and offered the top performers in the advancement examination a chance to become assistants in his laboratory, giving Orochimaru a reason to strive for an excellent evaluation. After leaving, he spoke with the Nine-Tails about protecting Konoha's children and the future.

  • Orochimaru resolved to stand out in the advancement examination so Namikawa Yū would notice him.
  • Namikawa Yū recognized Orochimaru and offered students who earned excellent evaluations a chance to work as assistants in his laboratory.
  • Tsunade introduced Jiraiya to Namikawa Yū, who spoke kindly with him and met the rest of the group.
  • Namikawa Yū left, and the young ninjas discussed their impressions and hopes of gaining his attention.
  • Namikawa Yū told the Nine-Tails that protecting Konoha meant protecting its children, while the Nine-Tails complained that it was hungry.

Ch. 101Hiruko

Namikawa Yū explained how ration pills made from the Nine-Tails’ flesh and Senju Hashirama’s cells could strengthen the Nine-Tails, while also describing medical uses he had developed for Hashirama’s cells. At the graduation examination, Tsunade and Orochimaru ranked first and second on the advancement list, and Namikawa Yū noticed Jiraiya and Hiruko near the bottom.

  • Namikawa Yū fed the Nine-Tails a ration pill and revealed it was made from the Nine-Tails’ flesh and blood combined with Senju Hashirama’s cells.
  • Namikawa Yū explained that the pills could help the Nine-Tails grow stronger and that Hashirama’s cells had also produced a promising healing medicine.
  • Nearly a thousand students took the graduation examination, and most passed the Genin requirements.
  • Namikawa Yū reviewed the advancement results, where Tsunade ranked first and Orochimaru ranked second among the top hundred.
  • Namikawa Yū found Jiraiya near the bottom of the advancement list, followed by the familiar name Hiruko.
