Bargaining and Testing Each Other
Since Feng Dengfeng wanted to put on airs, Jiang Yue naturally played along, acting like a subordinate should—timid and a little restrained.
As it turned out, Feng Dengfeng found this demeanor quite agreeable. His suspicions, which had lingered earlier, disappeared completely.
Feng Dengfeng was used to finding that superior, condescending sense of importance in Old Xia. That damn superiority complex had taken root back in college, and he was especially hooked on it.
"Little Zhang?"
"Yes, Lord Feng. I'm Little Zhang. I'm working under Captain Xia now."
"Not bad. You look sharp. Old Xia, I never thought you'd finally learned a thing or two."
Captain Xia chuckled along with him, though inside he was cursing up a storm.
They were old classmates, old buddies, but if he really broke down his feelings about this so-called roommate and pal, Xia had no affection for him whatsoever.
Especially after the whole team had been wiped out. Captain Xia had begged and pleaded with Feng Dengfeng, and had nearly gotten down on his knees. The man hadn't even offered him the barest courtesy, acting like it was strictly business.
Later, when Xia tried to see him, he'd even avoided him.
He was worse than Lord Wu, at least. Lord Wu had taken the blame upon himself before Lord Tree Ancestor, shouldering the biggest share on behalf of his subordinates. He'd also kept all the surviving Agents safe and given him, a Level 2 Agent, the chance to build a team again.
In short, he owed all of that to Lord Wu.
Old Xia had no personal ties with Lord Wu. At most, he'd been under Lord Wu's command during that one pursuit.
Even so, Lord Wu was far more reliable than Feng Dengfeng.
At least he didn't hide
